Just thought I would introduce myself. I have been reading the forum for some time and just recently joined.
I started trying to learn the Dobro about a year and a half ago and at 50 years old, with no previous musical experience, it has really been a challenge.
I also have an old Gretsch Electromatic lap steel that I have been fooling around with, but am sticking mostly with the Dobro until I learn it.
Thanks to everyone for the great topics and the YouTube clips -- what a great resource for the beginner!!

Welcome aboard, Bill. If Dobro is your main interest and you have no prior musical experience, I think you're on the right track in sticking with it, or at least with G tuning, until you feel like you've got it licked. Have a look at a recent thread called, "Dobro Question," for a discussion of the question. There are a huge number of instruction and/or tablature books available to help you out, not to mention a gigantic library of recordings. Again, welcome. And good luck to you! _________________ Amor vincit omnia |

Hi Bill,
Welcome aboard! I'm in Ft. Collins. Not sure if we're close neighbors, but if you are in the area give me a shout. Just look up Seldom Fed under recording studios in Ft. Collins,

Thanks for the kind words - the people that hang out here seem like really great people, which is why I decided to join.
Chris -- I'm in Grand Junction. I kind of hang with the bluegrass crowd, but that's not my primary musical interest, they just seem to be about the people getting together and making music on this side of the mountain. I really prefer classic country music. |

I meant to say: the bluegrass crowd are about the only people getting together and making music on this side of the mountain. |
