I just got back from Wal-mart. while waiting to get some pictures developed I was looking in the music section. The very first CD I looked at was this CD of Gary's. I grabbed it and protected it like the treasure it is till I could get home.
I just finished listening to it all the way through.
All I can say is WOW. Does any one know how the musicians are as they are not listed. The guitar and steel players really stand out. Actually the whole band is great.Its been a while since music has made cold chills, but this one does.

Bill that would probably be Steve Palousek from Temple/Belton area. A great steet guitarist among other things.

Thank's G. I thought it might be Steve. I know he did a lot of work with Gary. I am knocked out with this CD. By the way my Martin plays much better now since you played it....Anytime my friend, great hearing from you.

That's one of my peeves with some of those "Billy Bob's" CDs.
You read the liner notes and they list everyone who works at the club down to the door man and janitor. Then they don't give any credit to the musicians playing the actual music on a music CD. Kind of shows ya how important musicians are to that "Music" label.

This is a great CD and a has been a topic of threads for quite awhile..
If anyone is wondering how a slap delay can be effective in a players STYLE, here it is..
A lot to be learned by listening to Steve on the CD... |

Why don't they list the side men? is it a legal thing ?
They would sell more copies if they would.

I disagree with that statement entirely.
Actually, the executive producers of Smith Music Group Records, Rick Smith and Billy Minick, take a personal interest in the artists they record for the "Live At Billy Bob's" series. I was still playing with Kevin Fowler when his "Live At" was recorded. All I can say is every time we played Billy Bob's, including the recording date, we were all treated very, well. I'd say Rick Smith and Billy Minick treated us as well as the best in the business.
For the recordings, Billy Bob's provides their usual, talented stage crew and sound crew. The master recording is made from an engineering booth just off stage left. It's right next to the "hospitality suite" (those of you who have played there know what I mean by suite. It's much more than a "green room" or band "area"). After the master is recorded, the band is responsible for the post production of the recordings. With Kevin's recording, audio production and mixing was done by his own front of house sound engineer, Daren Fleming, with help from another colleague, Scot Reynolds. Mastering was done in Austin at Terra Nova by Jerry Tubb. These choices were made by Kevin Fowler.
As for liner notes, yes they include everyone on Billy Bob's production staff, and rightly so. Those folks contribute, too. But, the additional information on the liner notes, (aside from the wonderful artist accolades by Pam Minick) including the layout design is strictly the artist's decision. On Kevin's CD, all band members were listed (Kevin always shows appreciation for his band).
If this information wasn't included on the Gary Stewart CD, it was probably an artist oversight, not a "control-freak" attitude of the Smith Music Group.

Seems like an awfully big oversight to not credit the musicians. It's happened on more than one of their products. That's the only reason that made my believe that they were an uncaring label.

I have to agree with Glenn on this one. When I was with Janie Fricke we did the live album as well. However, during that time, there were other people involved and the final mixing, etc. was done in N'ville. That group eventually went belly up. It was 2 years before the CD was released, and it was after Smith/Minick took it over. I do remember it was up to the artist/bandleader to get the credits to the graphics people as well as others. I also recall Lynn Anderson's was held up, and Gary's may have been also. It's quite possible the people that needed the info from Gary Stewart's people may not have been able to get thru to them. If you heard some of the stories from his guys, you would understand 
At any rate, the credits for other artists including our's is on there. Also, there have been other posts on the forum about Steve and the work he and Glen Fleming did on the album. They are way out in the mix, and their twin work is terrific. Even if you're not much of a Gary Stewart, the arrangements are really good and as I said, the steel and guitar are way out front in the mix..... It's the same way they always did their live shows....
