I'm starting this thread so people can share their non pedal experiences at the Dallas show.

There were so many for me.

1. Seeing the first Double 12 superslide with a gorgous finish. I'm having my double 8 converted to a double 12.

2. Seeing Paul Franklin's Superslide and then hearing him jam on it in the MSA room on Friday night.

3. Hearing Lonnie Bennett play.

4. Lonnie and David Wright's duet on the main stage.

5. Chuck Lettes session on Friday night, especially his version of Harbor Lights.

6. The Non-pedal session on Saturday had some fantastic performances including Dan Tyack and Lonnie, Chuck's performance, and Lonnie's solo performance.

7. of course THE AMAZING session with Reece and Paul Franklin on the main stage. Two Superslides, Two Super players, one great band, one historic moment.

8. The Benoit booth.

9. Meeting Mike Auldridge.

My rant from another thread......photos and my take on it at 11.....

quote:
It was an incredible show with incredible music and people. However, I feel compelled to bring this one observance to the forefront....
STEELERS HAVE THE WORST AIM!

Next year I'm wearing hip waders when I enter the men's room!

Now I've been a member here for years and I can't count the threads on cabinet drop, ET vs JI, tone, mechanics, electronics, and music theory. When it comes to these things, everyone is so exacting. Mention any one of the topics above and there's a 4 page thread with scientific facts and exact tolorances.

But why is it, when there's a cake 14 times the size of a fret dot, that nobody can even come close to hitting it?

If someone is a half cent off A440, there's another 4 page thread but when someone sprays like a shotgun, not a word.

Even those who profess that it's all in the hands, should practice what they preach!

I suggest two things......that Petersen makes a strobe aimer and that Albert Tally puts a sign on the entrance to the men's room....The Piddle Steel Guitar Convention

Great show and I'll be back next year (if I'm not tarred & feathered)......

Hey Bill,

Great to meet you finally.

Howard....

I can only hope that none of it was my fault.

I wasn't there; but I have the secret that is only known to a few of us:

The secret revealed:
AIM ONE INCH BEYOND THE DRAIN HOLE!

Yes, that is correct. When you are standing at the urinal, aim one inch beyond the drain. If you are wearing shorts this technique will also prevent you from spraying your legs.

Glad to be of service, Mr Clean

OK all you guys, who is the first guy that is going to come forward and take some responsibility for their actions here, who will be brave enough to lead the rest of the guys to take their due responsibility for this catastrophe.

Let's hear it!

Aloha,

Don

Don, that's from having a wide vibrato... Time to watch the Jerry Byrd instruction video on how to hold the bar

The No Pedal Room.....Scotty, Chuck Lettes, Jim & Barbara Stalhut

George Piburn of GeorgeBoards....a rather eccentric....er, eclectic player and person

George is quite the animated player. I thought he was going to pull a rabbit out of his steel. He played a variety of music from Hawaiian, Western Swing, Spanish, and a metal rendition of a ZZ Top tune. A lot of fun.

I only got to be there on Saturday but my most memorable Non-pedal moments HAD to be Reece and Paul's set. Just awesome stuff!

The Non-pedal Session at the Dallas Jamboree went smoothly. A thanks to Wade Pence for helping me put it together. He worked to make sure we had amplifiers, power, cables, plus he MCed the session. Some of the non-pedal/Dobro players included Wade Pence, Leonard Zinn, Mark Switzer, Dan Tyack, Chuck Lettes, Lonnie Bennett, Margie Mays, George Piburn and Dick Meis. Also, a thank you to Albert Talley for the idea of creating the Non-pedal Session. Let's do it again next year!

Thanks for all the great photos, Howard. Those Benoit resos are incredible looking.

And I want, I want, I want that triple neck Sho-Bud that Dick is playing. What a beauty!

Not to mention that nice looking Georgeboards-I'd love to see the rabbit trick...

Thanks for your contributions here Howard.
Those Benoits are absolutely georgeous!!
They are more "Spiritual" rather than
physical.
Amazing craftsmanship.

The one that Tony "borrowed" is such a fine guitar in every aspect. It has everything going for it. If he didn't make his move, I might have fallen off the wagon.....

I personally enjoyed Margie Mays (sp?) and her smooth style of playing. It was one of those moments when the hair rises on the back of your neck as you are so touched by her playing. Congratulations Margie on a great performance...Rick Jackson
