Mike, when a transtubefex is plugged into the "power amp in" input on the back of a Nashville 400, why are the pre and post gain controls rendered inoperative? Is there a way to connect to this input and still be able to use these gain controls?

I'm obviously not Mike.

But, when you plug something into the Power Amp in on an amp you disconnect the preamp in the amp and you are then just using whatever you use for the input to the power amp. In this case with the Transtube fex plugged into the power amp, the transtube fex is the preamplifier, EQ, volume control and effects.

In order to use both the preamp and EQ in the Transtube Fex and the Nashville 400's (or any amp) preamp and EQ you would have to plug it in to the guitar input on the front (and significantly lower the signal output of the Transtube Fex so you don't overload the input on the 400).

Thanks Jack. When I plug the TTF into the front inputs, I get an awful "hum & hiss". But when I plug it into the rear input I get dead quiet, I just have no control except with the TTF.

Even with the TTF off and nothing in the input (of the TTF), I get a hum when plugged into the front inputs. As far as this hum, I tried different circuits, different cable and changing the NV ground switch, no help. The hum went away when I disconnected the power cord.

I reckon this TTF isn't particularly compatible with the NV400. I guess I need to look for an effects processor that doesn't have a preamp.

The hum is most likely a "ground loop hum". You need to isolate one of the units from the AC power ground or use an Ebtech Hum Eliminator.

As far as the noise, that's usually because the output of the Transtube Fex is too high. Drop the global output to about 20 and use the Low Gain input (the right input jack) on the NV 400. I also always used the Noise Gate with my Transtube Fex on all the programs.
