My Pal Garth Brooks keeps the Music Industry on it toes.Garth is always thinking big in anything he does. His compassion is deeper than most people in this world, knows. After being around him with out all his security people for over 15 years or more who really get in the way of who he really is,just as a person to me,he is always kind. And My Late good friend Buck Owens loved Garth.I am proud of him for what he has givin' to Country Music and the Steel Guitar Musicians he has givin' jobs.I will be there on 1/26/08 to visit with him.He is doing this Benefit for the California Wildfires and fund future firefighting and to bring to some Southern Spirit.I can't wait to see who is playing Steel Guitar with him. That post is hard to follow - the main fact I've gleaned from it is that LJ seems to know him personally.

Hello Roger,Yes,I know Garth very well. But,you need to read a little deeper to what Dale's Question is.That would be like me asking you, what have you done for your neighborhood?,in the good for Country Music on Steel Guitar. I'm just tired of everybodies Negative spirit for what others are doing to keep messing up thr truth. Leo J.Eiffert,Jr.

I don't know Garth, but I have great respect for the man that played on his records, Bruce Bouton.

Five years ago Bruce responded to a similar "Garth Bashing" thread on the old Forum.

Here's what he said:

Quote:
since I've played on every Garth Record I can probably speak with a bit of authority. I won't render an opinion on peoples taste in music cause that's what makes the world go round. However, for someone to call Garth Brooks records big pop productions they must not be listening to the rest of pro-tooled country radio. All of the Garth records were recorded on 24 track analogue tape and mixed on a Quad Eight board without automation. Most of the time the songs were charted as we listened to Garth play them on an acoustic guitar. Many times the records you heard on the radio were the actual recording, vocal and all , that happened on the take. Now for the guys that recorded in the sixties and seventies that was the status Quo.Back to the truth. Also Garth never used any vocal tuning on his records. You can actually hear flat and sharp notes on some of the performances. Try finding that on any on todays records. Also most of the reverbs came from an actual chamber. We never recorded with a clicktrack because Garth and Alan felt like it took away the feel.Basically everything we did was so under produced that it made Garths records sound different than anything else on the radio. There were alot of parts I wished I'd played different or better but in retrospect it didn't matter.
As far as Garth's success being the resul;t of slick marketing well.... I guess if working three hundred dates a year and never charging over fifteen dollars a ticket(While the average ticket was forty bucks)and doing free concerts in each market during the day for the sick and handicapped was slick marketing then more power to him.I'm obviously biased in favor of the man and I can't believe I'm wasting my time with this rant but I feel like I need to shed a little light on things.Garth Brooks takes nothing for granted and he's one of the nicest and most loyal people I have ever met.
BB

I wasn't 'bashing' Garth - I don't particularly like his voice, but there's a lot worse out there; I was trying to figure out what LJ was saying.

I'm not a big Garth fan (beyond is first two albums), but I have to say he was among the first I can recall who made an effort to lookout for fans by trying to limit ticket scalpers access to his concert tickets. He was the first I ever heard demand that line numbers be handed out and then a random drawing would determine which number was the "front" of the line.

Joey,
BASHING ? Oh Well

A statement was made about Garth's contribution to Country Music, I asked for clarification....He may be a super guy, he may be wealthy, he may be a heavy weight in today's country music, but what has he brought to Country Music, that others before haven't?
A ton of people love his music, I for one don't care all that much for it.... I thought that this is what this forum was about, discussing ideas and personal thoughts?
Great super, I hope it raises a lot of money for the Firefighters, Lord knows they are underpaid and risk thier lives doing what they do....and if anyone can draw a crowd, it will be G.B. Smile

To all you wonderful out-side forum brothers,I get the picture what you guys love to play on,and that's Okay! If you read what I really said, you would under stand that I'm posting to the Southern Califorina Brothers & Sisters. But again,if you can't say anything good about somebody, then you have the right to say all the bad things you want. That shows what kind of respect is in order and sure helps heal the pain of real,what?....Ps; I answered back with respect to what was address to my topic. Don't know Garth but I do know one thing. He is probably one of the best marketers in any business. My cousin worked for Garth for the whole stint before "retirement" He was a big boost for country music when they needed it. Maybe the first step in getting more people to respect old country is to at least give them the respect of freedom of expression. I totally agree that GB is a very caring person and that's more improtant to me than genre or style.

Little off-topic, but I see LJ lives in my former neck of the woods. We lived in Buena Park in 1965-1967, before my parents bought a home next door in Anaheim.

I hope the benefit for the SC firefighters is a huge success.

Hey Dale, it is for the world to read, but, you're the one who turn it around by saying, what has Garth done for Country Music with I think a little disrespect to under mind what I said on the topic instead of cheering him on for his given. Also, the California brothers & sisters who know me out here, sometimes this is the only time we get to see each other and that is why I said I wonder who he {Garth}has that will be playing Steel Guitar.Maybe, again I knowing Garth & Sandy personally,it hunts me too, to see them not together, but,as long as they are both happy then that's all that matters. God Bless,Leo J.Eiffert,Jr.

It was aired on CBS last night. I watched part of it but when there was no steel I switched to Johnny High Country and caught Reece. It's great that he's doing a benefit for the firemen.

I've been a fan of Garth's since his first hit "Much Too Young (to feel this damn old)" hit the charts. He brought a lot of folks over to country with his high energy stage shows which before him had been seen mostly in only the rock field. He always had a high caliber band and treated and paid them well. I know one of his guys (keyboard/fiddle player Dave Gant) from my old SoCal days and he's one of the better players on the plantet!

I did watch the CBS special last night and I'll have to admit that I was a little dissapointed with it. Garth seemed to be out of tune and out of breath on his vocals most of the time but his fans probably didn't notice as in a live show of that size there's so much noise and other distractions going on that you can't really hear it like you can on a TV broadcast. The folks there seemed to be really into it and I did enjoy it. I taped a special he did years ago and kept it in my files but I don't think I'll keep this one. It would've been nice to have a steel player on the show, if there was one, I didn't hear it.......

I have all of Garth's albums and the box set and enjoy them a lot. There are a bunch of great stuff that didn't make the singles chart if you look for them and a whole bunch of steel guitar to boot! One of my personal favorites is his arrangement of the Fleetwoods' old hit "Mister Blue". That was one of the best things I'd ever heard and country to the core!.........JH in Va.
