I guess I don't understand this very well at all..

I just read an old post [feb 07]where b0b said we should contact the artists involved before posting any Youtube clips...

Is this still standard procedure??

I mean most of the stuff I see here on the Forum has been submitted to YT by players themselves, or is old footage from TV where the artist has been paid long ago, and steel players in particular did not write the song played, and probably have no claim as they too were paid, and the footage belongs to however bought the TV rights...

I guess I need this clarified.. I have posted some YT stuff, and there has never been a comment as to if I asked for permission, etc...
I will certainly refrain from posting YT clips if I must, as I don't want to anger anyone, but I would appreciate an explanation as to the status of this matter, as I see no hostility towards anyone that posts here from YT material.. There is a ton of it daily, and it is well liked by all... however, I don't want to cause problems,,, b0b, if you would be so kind as to update us on this matter... bob

It was directed at the people who actually post the videos to YouTube, not the people who post links to those videos here. If you have amateur videos taken at steel shows, for example, it would be pretty rude to post them to YouTube without the artist's permission.

I think that broadcast videos of old TV shows fall into a different category entirely. There are legal copyright issues with those. You need to read up on YouTube's policies.
