It's so sad to see we have almost 850 members who have never posted or asked one question on the Forum.
It would be nice to hear from some of you and let us know what you think. Don't be affraid to ask a question as there are no dumb questions as mentioned in another post.

I would bet that a bunch of these folks don't play, but instead became members after purchasing something from b0b.

Also, a number of members are not steel players at all. They are guitar or other instrument players that just love the steel guitar and want to be part of our little world. An admirable quality in a musician to take such an interest in another instrument they don't play just to better understand the instrument and the people (loonies??) who play it.

Richard, I'm one of the non-players of Steel, that really enjoy it. Bass player/ singer.
I enjoy it because in my musical career I have met very few steel players who were not musically knowledgeable and great people.

As always, there are exceptions.

I have to chime in here..about the guys who "say they play..and can't". Reminds me of a story..The last time I was at the Dallas show..we were all standing around waiting for the elevator..we got on..it got quiet as we all stood there looking at our feet (or somebody elses) One guy asked another..' "Do you play steel?" ..(guy thought for a minute)..(answered). "Well, I thought I did ..till I came down here..and heard that out there"..(we all laughed)..A great comeback..and how true those words are. Cheers..d

Some people join and then can't figure out how to post. Or they forget their password before they get around to posting. Or they forget their name - don't laugh, it happens several times a week. I get emails where people say that their username is (for example) fooman2004@hotmail.com but they can't log in.

They never read the FAQ because they don't know that FAQ means Frequently Asked Questions. They send me an email instead. Some of the emails read like this:

From: JOHN <bigsteeld10@yahoo.com>
Subject: LOGIN

I CANT LOG IN. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

THX.

Some of these people never post a message, in spite of my attempts to help them.

I had always thought that FAQ meant 'Foreigners Acting Quirky', so I always avoided those guys figuring they were probably up to no good anyhow. Thanks for clarifying that point for me. I'll be less suspicious in the future, but still retain some of my inherent paranoia. What a relief.

Thanks for all your posts.
You all have made valid points and have cleared up many reasons why many have not posted.
Maybe this post may activate some minds to get them involved.
What b0b said is true. I had a friend of mine ask the same question to me about his password and how he could find out what it was.
You also made my point about the "but can't play".
This is very true of many of us after attending a concert listening to the pros.
We want to go home and trash our steels, but then we do get behind them and become the best player we can as the pros are in another league of their own. We just have to accept that and move on.

Some people join and then can't figure out how to post.

Some people show their ignorance trying to log in and others log in and show their ignorance.

Remember: there are no stupid questions, just stupid answers.

For me I post in spurts. I find that a simple search finds the answer I am looking for - no need to bring up old topics.

Being a noob, I will occasionally add my thoughts if I feel strongly enough - does not happen often. Or thank someone for a post that helped me.

I am here to learn, and as I do, I will share what I have learned with others who post questions. But I am withdrawing from the knowledge base at this point.

But you guys are awesome - I have seen you all help folks get their instruments back, and I have seen some of the best players out there demonstrate patience with people like me, who ask questions like 'what is pick blocking?' or what do the pedals do?'

I lurk, yes, but I do so because I'm just not ready to get out of the 'wallflower' mode - you wouldn't see a bar or picks anywhere near my hands at a PSG convention because there are so many folks who can teach so much better than I can - and I am a college prof! But I don't teach PSG, I teach electrical engineering courses.

I've taken enough time - thanks everyone for helping me out - hope I can return the favor someday.

No, I never got to the PSGA show because I had a gig that weekend.
No Bill, I never heard you play.
I made the comment only to get a reaction and nothing more. It was done in jest.

Given the recent post on forum degeneration, how about those who simply use the search device to find what they need--you know, those heavy, disassociated artist types?

if you all can recall, when b0b started this whole thing....it was amazing that even a couple hundred of us could communicate! what an incredible forum this has become...........even if some of us use too many big words or buy too many different purple steels!!
