Having a little bit of D-10 GAS, and was thinking about the possibility of the the back neck setup as mostly a standard Emmons C6, but a half step lower to B6. Any glaring reasons why one shouldn't consider this? I have a few Universals, and it seems like it would be easier to move between the U-12s and a D-10. Anyone try this? Other than string gauges, any mechanical reason for this not to work out?

Thx gang.

Larry

I think it makes good sense, because of the natural relationship between B and E.

The E and B relation ship does make sense, but the other question is whether the fret markers will be offset. Are both necks designed with reference markers for the specific tunings?

I have done it on several. I have a D-12 that is basically a universl on both necks E9th ,no 9th string D and B6 on the other neck with 4& 8 lowered a half and 2nd tuned to C#. E9th pedals on one neck B6th on the other. I almost went to a D9th /D6th but never did.I went so far as to order the guitar and changed my mind before the tuning was put on it. I did sell the guitar because I couldn't get used to the C 6th. I wish I had it now but too late.

The back neck tuned to C6th sounds sweeter in C, G and the flat keys. I've tried B6th and D6th, but C6th just sounds better to me unless I'm playing in sharp keys (E, A, D). Sometimes the fact that a song is in F or Bb is enough to push me over to the back neck.

I have my D-10 tuned to B6th when I am using a 12 string Universal, it is much easier to go back & forth, but Like B0B, I really like the C6th open notes a heck of a lot better, but right now I am into the uni, so I will keep it in B6th for the time being.

If it had been that way in the first place I might have tried C6th but I never liked having an open C chord. On E9th I'd rather play in F than open E anyday of the week. Just think, with a B6th on your back neck you've got a C and F on fret one on both necks..... a D & G on fret 3 on both necks.... an A and E on fret 5 on both necks, and so forth. Also with your IV 7 pedal you've got an open E7th with that great low E string to use for the rock style power chording with a root on the right string for a change..............JH in Va.
