The Nashville 112 weighs 43 lbs.
This is the lightest and best sounding steel guitar
amp available in any brand that I know of.
Anything weighing less may not have the speaker
designed for steel. If you find something as portable
as you say, you are going to lose sound quality.
A 12 inch speaker is probably the smallest you want
for steel. |

thanks paul, but i already have a nv112,not so wild about the sound the 12 inch produces.however i hooked a 15 inch to it and it sounded much better in my opinion.i called peavey to see if they had a cab that would hold the 112 electronics as well as a 15 but was left with the impression that they had little interest in helping me.that hurt because i have been a big peavey fan and amp user from the 70`s on. |

Have you look at Nashville 400s? They're heavier than NV112s, but they're smaller than a NV1000 and have 15" speakers. |

Ya might try an Evans SE-150, if you can find one, they are nice & light with a 15" speaker, my wife carries mine for me all the time!!
They weigh 38lbs. I doubt you could get anyone to sell ya one, they are tough to find used.

I would suggest you set a rack system together.
Then all you have to transport is the rack and plug the speaker into it when you get there.
This arrangement was proposed by Jeff Newman years ago when he endorsed the Peavey DPC 750 amp used in conjunction with the Peavey ProFex II. He would even program the card if you sent it to him. |

Hi Erv,
thanks for your reply.you nailed the point i was trying to get to. im not looking for a combo amp i already own several of those now.im looking for a small rack type amp so i can have a speaker at church and one at home.
my question is,has anyone found a rack type system or any small amp head that has worked for them and is moderatly priced? or can anyone talk peavey into building the nv112 cab just a couple of inches taller so it could be ordered with a 12 or 15 speaker? |

Curtis,
Fred Justice can build you a 3 or 4 place, 3 door rack cabinet and then just find what you want to put in it. I like the Tube Works stuff. A single space preamp, a single space amp and a Lexicon effects unit would put you in great shape. Very portable and hernia proof. Or like Jeff Newman suggested, a Peavey DPC 750 and a ProFex II would do the trick. |

I like that idea, Erv. Do you (or does anyone else) know a GOOD SOUNDING one or two space rackmount amp that doesn't weigh a ton? The only rackmount amps I've heard and liked were the MosValves, and old stereo tube Marshalls, neither of which are even approaching "lightweight"... _________________ I don’t believe in pixie dust, but I believe in magic.

Dave,
Peavey manufactured a stereo power amp a few years ago designated the CS 200X. This ia a nice sounding single space amp.
www.peavey.com/media/pdf/manuals/cs200x.pdf
There is a Tube Works 962 amp that is double space and they have the same amp in a single space onfiguration that is the 982. Both are stereo.
I don't know how much you want to spend but it's hard to beat the Stewart World 1.2 amp. That is also a single space solid state amp but a little on the heavy side. |

That Evans Amp Head at 200 wats looks like a good deal to me. Put that with a Neo 15" speaker cab, and you might make 25lbs total with power too. I'd buy that....al. _________________ Michigan (MSGC)Christmas Dinner and Jam on my 80th Birthday.

|

I've used a Compact 60 for quite a while and it sounds great...and it weighs under 18 pounds !
At one point it looked like it was about to acheive acceptance with steelers just in time for AER to price them at a ridiculous high level. They list for $1400 now. But used ones are usually around 600 bucks. Will fill a small church nicely. |

I have recently been using a Evans EH 200 Hybrid with a 12 inch speaker and it gives me the best sound for PSG I've found. I've tried several amps.
The EH200 is very lite and you can use any size speaker you desire....The EH200 will drive dual speakers or has an output for the preamp to other power amps. I also have an SE-200 Evans that I like to use some times it has a 15 inch speaker and weights #35 or so. This is the best weight to sound quality rig I have found altho it is not inexpensive. _________________ wrfindlay@yahoo.com

Curtis, check out the Stewart PA100 power amp. It's a 1/2 rack unit, 100 watt per side into 8 ohms, or 200 watts bridged. That's like having the power of a Nashville 400 in a five (maybe 10!) pound package. They usually sell in the $325.00 range. Let me know if that sounds like something you would be interested in!!! |
