I have a Benoit Weissenborn with a Piezo PU. Tried shimming in front of the brass bridge as it tips forward and not making proper contact with the bottom where contact is made with the PU.
Probably need a new thicker bridge to stand up straight in the slot. Should I stay with brass or another material? |

You should pull out your pickup and look at the slot (as I did on my Benoit Cajunborn). The instructions for installation of the pickup (LR Baggs) state that the slot needs to be perfectly flat at the bottom... mine's not. In fact, I found a piece of light cardboard at the bottom, on top of the pickup... evidently attempting to even out the string balance (it didn't work).
In short, the pickup needs to be re-installed exactly according to the directions, including slot width etc. Having the bridge crooked in the slot hurts the electric sound, since the vibrations are bypassing the pickup.
I'm still trying to find a good luthier that can do this work for me... you'd think there'd be one around Austin! _________________ Too much junk to list... always getting more. |

Stephan:
It seems you & I have the same issue. There is a Luthier in Providence, RI that can approach this. Thanks for responding. You saved me a lot of grief |

I had a similar issue with my Cajunborne in terms of the evenness of the sound..my bass response, which was good to start with, had gotten progressively weaker - my tech (forumite Gavin Dunn)had trouble evening out the sound with the brass saddle and we tried a bone saddle which sounds great and the sound is nice and even now. |

I thought I might try a bone bridge. This is beyond my pay grade so off to the Luthier. I will print out this entire thread for him to read.
You guys are great! |

Len-I have a McIntyre contact pickup in my Scheerhorn weissenborn and it sounds really nice. I know they are not in vogue now but I never considered upgrading it because it has a really warm balanced sound - you do have to move it around to get the best sound though.

Thanks Steve, I plan on changing the bridge to bone and tell my tech to fiddle with the the pickup.
Does anyone know where I can get the bone material? |

These guitars sound pretty amazing with the Baggs Element pickup.
The repair shop I take my stuff to seems to always have a supply of stuff like bone saddle material, and I imagine you could get it at any repair shop of any size. |

StewMac has bone material. I've had success using the K&K Pure Western pickup-fairly easily installed (gluing the 3 transducers under the bridge accessed thru the sound hole) and the sound is even and balanced. |
