Some good shots of Keoki on his Canopus, and Mary dancing, along with a great blown-up shot at the rear of the stage of George with his original group.
Did anybody hear the gig?
Keoki will soon be 80 years young and proving it every day as he often gigs and tutors many students on the steel and ukulele.
Who do you know to be this active at 80?
A big tip o the hat to George and Mary! |

Ah shucks, guys! I appreciate the posting Ron. If I do say so myself, it was an exciting evening ! The occasion was the 80th anniversary of radio station CKUA, (less than a year older than me), which was held at the Horowitz Theatre of the University of Alberta to a wonderful crowd of well over 300 in the audience. The radio station blew up that old b/w pic taken at CKUA studio "A" in 1950 and it was a screened backdrop as we played on stage...you'll note I'm playing a D-8 National in the old pic, and I had lots of hair! Yes, I'm still keeping very active, teaching 32 adult students each week on steel and ukulele, ( http://3.telus.net/public/lake_r/ )... playing gigs with my jazz trio, and playing in the big band: www.trocadero.ca
Incidently, the anniversary show was streamed on the www ... folks in New Zealand and other far off places sent me e-mails which were appreciated. |

I listened to the show on the internet. It was a very enjoyable one hour step back in time. A wonderful variety show. I almost forgot it was live until, at the very end, Lionel Rault's blues number was a little heavy in the mix as "the old disc jockey" began to sign off, but the sound engineer quickly made the necessary sound level corrections.
Good work George. |

Hi CC...Gee, that's so nice to know and encouraging. In my senior years I still have a decent chance to be handsome compared with you ! Mahalo for your nice comments of Mary. I'm surprised you missed out on the sound ... (there was no video of the production). |
