A colleague has a Dekley student model that we are going to drag out and dust off. I haven't seen it yet.

He thinks it has 3 and 3. Does this make sense? And some sort of naughahyde covering?

Are these decent? How do they rate along the Red Baron/Maverick continuum? Can knee levers be added?

I know that compared to the Maverick and/or the Red Baron the Dekley is higher class.Knee levers can be added.The Dekley is a nice instrument with killer tone and a good instrument to work on.Several forum members have one and they think highly of these steels.

All are fine machines. Yes you can take the S-10 student up to 3 and 4... Just gotta build and install the main and reversing mechanism for RKR (typically).

I've got one of these Dekley student models. It is 3 X 3. It looks like you could add another lever on it, you probably would have to have the parts custom made. The weakest part of this steel are the leg holders. They are bolted on the corners and are made of plastic and they like to break. I've replaced the plastic corners with aluminum ones.

Wow, my "student" model is more populated underneath than that. Mine has crossrod holes (and crossrods)for 3 pedals and 4 KL's. Maybe I've underestimated its designation.

I have a Dekley 'Renegade', which I understand was sold as a kit..could be wrong about that...and it's the only pedal steel I've ever played. Mine stays in tune, and the only weak spot are the knee levers...not exactly industrial strength.

Mine is a 3 and 3, with a right knee lever for the 3rd one.

I know someday I'll play some other guitar, but my little Dekley works just fine for me in my studio.

Maybe someday I'll even drag it out somewhere.

I'd say go for it, and check it out.
