Good Lord! Is "The Hogan " still there? I worked there with Paul McGee, the Hank Thompson Drummer in 1959, winter. What a nice place then, I hope it still is. Wish I could get by there to see the Jam.

Yes, the Hogan, superficially, still looks about the same. Same Neon Indian Chief on the roof! Same arched ceiling inside. Owners a couple of times back (hee hee) put in a really good sound system so you don't have to take your own in. (What a boon for a jam, eh?)

They've had nothing but Blues for the past five years or so, and I finally talked them into COUNTRY -- which is, as you know, their heritage!

There are lots of C&W fans in Colo. Spgs and I hope they will show up and dance. (I know lots of players that will.)

If the "Hogan" could talk! Wow! I saw some funny stuff in there, Geo. Jones hired me in there for a long tour when I was just a puppy, I loved that place as it was the premier spot in the springs. (Still safer that church it seems)

By the time I arrived in COS (1970) the premier place was the Cow Palace, which Jack Jackson started after he sold Crossroads West in Albuquerque. 7 nights of Live C&W, a big hardwood dance floor, and Cocktail Waitresses that had you "drinkin' or leavin'."

In the 70's, there were 20 clubs in COS that had LIVE C&W and the fans are still here! I'm hoping they will come out and keep us going at the Hogan!!

Is Rory Ludweg still picking guitar in the Springs? He used to play when Mac had a show. Nice guy and a great talent.

Rory has been here all along, altho he gave his steel to his daughter. He had my steel for a while. But about two months ago, he went to live with a daughter in the pacific northwest, after the place he was living in (for 13 years) got sold out from under him.

We all miss him.

In the late 60's I met Wayne Gayley for the first time @ the N Hogan. He was steelin for Kenny Vernon..I sat in on his Fender 1000. If I recall it had a eye hook on the top and bottom of the E9th neck, and a 10 string pickup which allowed him to play a cromatic tuning. NO KIDDIN

What ever happened to Wayne Gilley? I saw him in Denver playing in the early 80s. I was really impressed with his set up.

He was playing some different kind of tunings. He invited me to set in and pick his steel, but his tuning was so different and his pedal setup I had enough sense to not try it and make a complete fool of myself. I remember he was a really great player!

There was another guy in The Springs playing in that Cow Palace back in early 80's, his name was Junior last name slips me now. He looked like he stepped right out of the 1950s, did not fit that scene at all, but man he was a steel picker too.

I think you are thinking of Dale Gilley. He worked Sundays in the early 70's at the Zanzabar in Aurora Colo, so we could have a night off. our band was called (Ray Cobb & high Country)
I think he died about 10 yrs. or so ago.

Which knee levers do what on your rig..? I wouldn't mind dropping in, but I don't want to embarass anybody by hitting the wrong ones. I do that enough on my own D12...

I live up the pass in Woodland Park, but work down in Briargate, so I pass by the Hogan on my way home every night. Sounds like fun...

Rick's Dekley has an Emmons pedal setup with the E>F raise on the LKL and the E>Eb lower on the LKR. There is a 2nd String raise D#>C and, if I remember correctly a 6th raise G#>F on the RKL (I kindof stayed away from that one so I may be wrong).

Please come on down and play, I felt kind of inadequate and could use some help!

By the way I work up in Briargate too.

Thanks for the info. I'm used to raising E's on LKL & lowering them on RKL as I was brought up on Sho~Buds, but I'm game to try it. I usually play at Buck's in Woodland Park on Sunday afternoons. They do a country and western swing jam, so I get a C6th workout too. I'd like to get back to the Hogan as well. It's been a couple of years...

Passed by the Hogan just today. It is still up for sale. I thought someone was working on the building about a month ago but apparently nothing is happening with the property as of yet.

I don't think it's for sale. Johnny Noland (South Side Johnny's) bought it and has been fixing it up.

I understand that street people were living in it for a while and really messed it up.

I need to talk with him about what kind of music he's going to have. (SSJ is rock & blues)

I'll let you know when I know something.
