This steel is on UK E Bay and I was wondering if it is a good buy or a good bye.

Link to auction on eBay UK.

Best wishes for the festive season.

Wow - I never knew Ibanez ever made anything like that. Whoa!

I can't speak for the price, but I'd imagine it will be built as good as anything from the U.S. during the same period.

If it was me, I'd be willing to spend up to around $800 for something like that, but I have no idea what it's worth.

In other words, you can ignore everything in this post, except that I think it's cool and wish I had it. Very Happy

That headstock looks like it makes for a challenge when re-stringing. Never heard of an Ibanez lap steel. Interesting.

Interesting. The fretboards have the G for Guyatone logo.

That may not mean much, as Japanese guitar manufacturers tended to contract out various parts in a "just in time" manner.

The pickups (or at least the covers) resemble older Console Grande pickups. You don't often see P90 style pickups on Japanese guitars prior to the mid 1970's. You don't see Ibanez guitars much prior to 1968.

My impression is this is either a modified intrument
or something cobbled together from leftover parts.

I still think it's a cool instrument.

Aside from those string....uh, pans?, that looks like a cool instrument.

I'm a huge fan of late 70s/early 80s Ibanezes. I've played half a dozen 335's and none of them feel as good as my AS-50.

(^ I am fully aware that the above comment is a hangin' offense in some parts.)

I looked at this guitar too when it first surfaced on eBay. It is very rare, and as it stands at the moment is a good price for what it is.

You have to bear in mind that you are never going to get spares for it however, and if you do need anything it will have to be made up.

It's NOT an Ibanez and those particular pickups were made by Cyril Proctor. I have a Guitar made by Harry Brooker with exactly the same pickups.
Just rushed to the shed and took these :-

If you want an 8 string I'll sell you a 3 necked Gibson With REAL pickups on it for £750

I don't mean to hi-jack the thread but if Billy wants an 8 string I'm prepared to sell him this one.
Just rushed the pics again.

It's the same shed that has that big white telephone I sometimes call "Ralph" or Hughey" on !
If that doesn't register just ask the "North of Hadrian's Wall" contingent, I'm sure they are very familiar with the same type of 'phone..

The guitar sold for £280, approximately $550
I did not bid at all.
Basil, thanks for the offer of the Gibson,it is beautiful but I am not really in the market for a non pedal steel.
Best regards
Billy

No Problem Billy, I'm glad you didn't buy. It's a LEMON..the pickups were a giveaway that it was a cobbled together "bitza" bits'a this and bits'a that.

As for the Gibson I would ONLY have sold it to YOU if you REALLY wanted a non pedal 8 string. It's NOT up for public sale or offers.

...but the 'phone won't keep the bad guys out. If you've got all your precious collection outside you should put an alarm on the shed.
