As some of you may recall, I moved from the MS to the HS this year. Tomorrow I am bringing in my lap and do some playing. I let a few students bring their guitars in last week. One was pretty good but they use a lot of distortion. We'll see what kind of audience the hs students are. Of course I will be bringing my non-union musicians BIAB, they work cheap.

Let us know how it goes. Surely they'll all want to build lap steels as a result. |

Make sure you do at least one tune the might recognize, like "Iron Man" or "Smoke on the Water" |

Ron uses his "non-union musicians - BIAB"
Yes, Ron. I have them myself.
The band that never gets sick, is never late, never demands vacation pay, never critcizes your playing, etc.
They are just a wonderful band to work with. |

...problem with BiaB is the music never plays along at the same beat as I do. Need to re-program BiaB, I guess.
Hope your session goes well at school. I know they will say "he is one, cool, dude".

Today was exam makeup day, so attendance was light. They liked my music but would have preferred other songs. One boy surprised me and requested C&W. So happens I had Your Cheatin' Heart on the CD. He liked my twangy melody. House Of The Rising Sun was well received also. One of my co-workers said I look too serious while playing. I am aware and seldom look up, probably because I fear hitting a sour note. I got their attention whn I cranked up the distortion, something I rarely use. So, it was a good day.

Way to go, Ron. I wish I had started in high school. I hope you get a few converts! |

Ron,
Might I suggest that next time you bring your lap steel to school, most ANYBODY , including HS kids , like the Blues !!....Very easy to play, very easy to play along with, and plenty of improvising can be done ..
I think a simple 3 chord blues is something that EVERYBODY can relate to ...Good Luck ....Sincerely, Jim |
