That's Gene Oneil; first met him at the Golden Nuggett in Vegas when he was playing for Judy Lynn. |

Scott that is Gene O'Neal. Wow! I played that thing 3 times and then I favorited it.
I met Gene in Norway in 1971 or -2 when Charley did a show there. I shook hands with Charley, and Gene played a bit of Steel Guitar Rag for me..wow what a picker! Then I met him at the Posssom Holler in Nashville around 1990.
It is just too bad that the good guys have to leave us way too soon. Gene was a good guy for sure. |

Thanks gentlemen, this place sure is a wealth of information! It's amazing to me how many of you guys not only know of, but have actually met, some of these great players/celebreties.
I book-marked this one too. As much as I willingly admit to a ton of great steel playing going on out there today - this traditonal stuff is timeless and completely blows me away. I can only dream of approaching that level of steel picking but it is inspiring nonetheless!! Gotta love those Fender amps and Gene's P/P. Love it, love it, love it!! |

Gene was one of the best out there. Also a super nice guy. Showed me how to do the funky little lick on his instrumental called "Funky Monkey". Jody. |
