Hello everybody,
This is my latest effort at lap slide guitar building.
This guitar is
Sapelly Mahogany Body
Indian Rosewood fingerboard and Bridge
Single Humbucker Pickup
At www.myspace.com/ozziebluesman there are two short sound clips. One demo is a clean tone, the other with some distorsion.
Thanks for looking
Cheers

That is very nice Alan. I like the simple design. The knobs seem to be right in the perfect place. The pickup seems to be pretty far from the bridge though. I am used to the pup being right behind. Does this effect the tone much.
Which songs on your site are the demo's? |

Hello Gary,
Thanks for you kind comments. The first two song on the myspace site are the lap slide demo. The other two are my weissenborn lap slide.
Installing the pickup where roughly the soundhole would be on an acoustic was just an experiment. It dose give the guitar more depth and adds a richness to the tone.
Thank you
Cheers

How is the sound changed by mounting the pickup so far up?

Nice job Alan, and the clips sound great
Is that a bone saddle? How did you do your string grounding?
Looking forward to your next one

Ron, some general rule of thumb, the closer to the bridge a pickup is, the brighter it will be.
Also, the farther from the bridge, the more output a pickup will have. _________________ Some misc pics of my hand crafted steels

Nice build and GREAT tone, love it - I also prefer the neck pickup on my own twin-pickup lap steel, adds quite a bit of warmth, and I hear that in yours, too! |

Hey Tom, thanks for your kind remarks. Yes the pickup position makes a big difference to the tone. You explanation is spot on.
I earthed the pickup in the tone, volume pot cavity by just grounding to a small metal plate on the side of the cavity. I have seen this method on some very old electric guitars and it works ok. Next one has been started and its a hollow neck weissenborn copy. Thanks!
Thank you Al and Roman for your comments
Cheers
