Hi. I've been playing a recent Carter S-10 E9th for the past two and a half years. I like it a lot and plan to continue to work on that, but for several reasons I'd also like to try my hand at dobro and maybe some lapsteel.

How much should I concern myself with the scale lengths and string spacing of the instruments I'm considering purchasing? My Carter is their normal a 24.5" scale (I can't recall the string spacing at the moment). Is this topic even important? I just don't want to do the wrong thing and end up with a less than ideal set of instruments.

I currently have a Beard Goldtone at the top of my list.

Thanks for your assistance!

3/8" spacing seems to be preferred. There are several posts going right now about this. My feeling, get what feels good to YOU!

I did a forum search, and read the current posts on string spacing, but I didn't see anyone addressing the issue of moving back and forth between a PSG and a non-peddle instrument. I'm guessing this lack of information means it isn't really an issue and I shouldn't worry about it, right?
