OK, so I got the switch from Stew-Mac to replace the one that disintegrated on my 1960 Fender Stringmaster steel guitar. The only thing is, it appears that the side with the spring mechanism on it is on the opposite side of where they USED to put it. At least when I look very closely at how it's wired up, that appears to be the case. Is this so? Also, to complicate things, the 'eyelets' on the old one are all adjacent (there are 8 of them, the outside two being unconnected to any wires), whereas on the new one, they're really spaced out. I'm assuming this has no bearing on anything, but just that they spaced them out further(?).

It's hard to tell, and my pics ain't so great, but it appears that the connector blade is now on the other side of the spring coil side, and that for me to properly wire it, and make sure it's not in reverse, I need to basically do a mirror of the way it is now.

Am I seeing things, or is this true?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Been there!! I had to use the wiring diagram that comes with the switch because the new part is not physically identical. It was a headache though.

As long as the switch fits into the body~cavity, it can be reversed. I replaced the (3)-way on my T-8 Custom with a (5)-way, for more combinations and more recently replaced the (5)-way with (3) Individual ON/OFF Switches for all (7)-Combinations! If you're not hung~up on Originality, (3)-Individual~Switches is the most efficient way to go! To the best of my knowledge, the Original (3)-way is the same switch used in the Fender–Tele!

John is correct. The new switch I used was a Tele replacement. Using the diagram that comes with the switch, and looking where the coils were attached to the old switch will help get it wired.
