Well it's finally back from the paintshop. Linda's 1956 Fender Stringmaster (yes we found the date). Here's what she looked like before:
And here's what she looks like now!
I want to thank Jerry White of Cottontown, TN for the great job he did bringing this baby back to life. It sounds great, and plays like a dream. Needless to say, Linda is very happy! Merry Christmas Everyone

You were absolutely correct to restore it. The value to you has increased greatly; and that's what matters. This is much, much better than keeping it original and in the closet.
Mr. Clean would even consider playing this guitar.

When Nick was putting the diamonds back on the steel we found the date on the back of one of the diamonds. It reads 005-56-1775.
Jody, does that mean it was made:
May of 1956?

Wasn't there a date under a tuning pan?
The pickup switch style indictes later than 56, probably 59.
Maybe the diamond was made in 56.
[This message was edited by Joey Ace on 15 December 2005 at 11:57 AM.]

No date could be found in the tuner pan pits of the body, just neck #'s (in red) & what looks like Mr. Leo's initials (LF) where he may have inspected them. The only indication of a date I could find was scratched on the back of the right side diamond plate for the front apron. It reads 005-56-1775.

That is such a beautiful Stringmaster...
Pardon my ignorance, but is it a long-scale? Looks kinda 'long' to me....

Nick,
Since you have gone as far as you have, why not replate the metal parts and it will all look new.
Based on the condition of the guitar in the first picture, I would have done the same.
Aloha,
Don

Nick;
If the scale measures 24” you goofed putting it back together! It's supposed to be 24½”! Just kidding¡
I never cared about Originality over Better~Looks. I guess that's enough reason why I'm not a Collector! It looks great! Have fun with it! I'm sure that's meant for both of you! I hope you don't fight over who's turn it is to play on it!! Remember Nick, Linda gets first chances!

Now THAT is one fine refinish/restoration job. That guy is a master! Did it take long to have it done?

Jason,
It took about 10 days for us to get it back. The finish is absolutely breathtaking. Trust me, these pictures don't do it justice. The guitar looks brand new. Nick

Nick- That sure is a beautiful looking guitar. Linda will look good and sound great on it. I like those pickups and also those controls right handy on top as they should be for all steels.
Makes me almost want to go back to my D8 days, if I can remember all that 1950 stuff.....Merry Christmas....al
