Dave,
The PSGA is having the show on Nov 10 - Nov 11 in Norwalk, Conn. this year. It's going to be a great show, the lineup is stupendous. Plenty of top notch talent on both days. Check out our website www.PSGA.org for the particulars. |

What a great line up of players the PSGA has this year.
Wish I could make it, but I have scheduling plans this year.

The Saturday schedule at http://www.psga.org/pages/celeb.html
looks like there is a $25 admission fee for the afternoon, plus another $25 for the 3 hour evening show.
Is that correct? |

Mr. Ace: That is the correct! PSGA Members receive a discount on both afternoon and evening events on Saturday. Thanks for asking.

Joey, the admission might be considered a little steep compared to other monster-sized shows, but that's the point....you get to see monster players in a very small, intimate venue.
You can easily sit in the front few rows and even if you didn't, you're not more than 10-20 feet away.
The big shows may have more bang for the buck, but it's a lot more fun when you can see what exactly the players are doing and talk with them right then and there.
And the Saturday night jam is a special treat all by itself, no matter what steel show you go to.
Get up close and personal at PSGA! |

Tony Palmer, thank you for your comments. Those forum participants who are not actively a part of the steel guitar world, sometimes raise questions which question their expertise. Obviously, on this forum many participants really have no knowledge of what is involved in producing a show of this high quality and expense.
I fully realize that you, as a past President of the Rhode Island Steel Guitar Association, in addition to being a long time member of the PSGA and a fine steel guitarist, have experienced all the detailed work, frustrations, and where with all of producing an annual steel guitar show, in continuing to keep an organization devoted to the steel guitar, intact.
Congrats to RISGA President Marcia Rodriguez on her success with the RISGA Show this year.
Costs of producing our annual event for the past 34 years have escalated to the point where it may no longer be possible to continue. Hotel rental costs, artist fees, transportation costs (eveyone wants to fly and be transported to and from the airport $$$$$) and associated costs have more than doubled in the past year. Admissions don't cover the costs. PSGA absorbs them.
To those who need to be educated about putting on steel guitar shows - GET ACTIVELY INVOLVED then you will have some basic facts to talk about and have a foot to stand on. Let's be Positive about it!! |

Hi Bob I will be comming to the PSGA Sunday and will be bringing some freinds with me.I know all the work that is involved with running Steel Shows as being the Founder of the Rhode Island Steel Guitar Association and also having a sucessful Steel Guitar IN in Greeneville Tennessee last year. The Guys down there are keeping it going now that I started it for them and they really appreciate it. It takes a lot of work and time to do these Shows and make sure they come out right.
See you next month.

I want to back up what Bob Maickel has so well laid out.
Both Jack Stoner and myself no very well what it takes to keep a Steel Guitar Club going.
It is also very hard to find anyone who wants to help and not just to come and play once a month when we run our club jams.
So please give Bob and his staff the due that they very well deserve and help support the PSGA and also the many other steel Clubs and Associations.
My 2 cents.

Bob,
Thank you for your comments. This years RISGA show was my first and yes it was a lot of work. It doesn't make it easy when the forces pull against you. People don't realize the cost involved to put on a show. I was slammed continuously for raising the cost of the ticket as you can read back on the forum. We put on a great show for $10 a ticket.
I am not a steel player, but I am married to one and I am a member of RISGA and PSGA. I know what goes into PSGA as I have attended for the last 3 years. The cost of your show is worth every dime and then some.
We are secluded from these greater players here in the Northeast, although we do have a lot of talent here. In order to attract these players we must raise our prices to afford them and everything else.
Don't give up Bob! There are those of us who will always come; just as there are those that will always complain because it is what they do best. |

Thanks to all of you who have given and continue to give us your support year after year. Sam White, as we grow in age we can admire your dexterity in getting steel players to start something in remote areas of this great land and we respect you for your continued devotion to the steel guitar.
Our dear friend Don Sulesky in Florida, in addition to his fine steel playing, has been an integral part of the PSGA for more years than I can remember.
Marcia, thanks for your comments and support. You know very well what goes into producing a steel show and earn an A+ for your accomplishments and dedication.
Mike Shefrin we fully appreciate your continued support of our endeavors and look forward to seeing you in Norwalk next month.
We have had a few scheduled player changes which are now on our web site. This is a fact of life that all show producers have to face.
Mike Sigler recently phoned me and said that he would not be able to fullfill his spot on this year's PSGA show. He was very apologetic and then said "I have received an offer from Tracy Lawrence in Nashville, to join his band and go on the road, the pay and benefits are very good and my wife told me to do it". I agreed and said "you have to do what is best for you and yours. You can't make a decent living playing steel guitar shows". God Speed to Mike he is an excellent player and has a very warm down to earth personality. We wish him the best and regret that he can not be with us.
However, we have added Jim Cohen and Chuck Lettes to the program. Jim was #1 on the waiting list and Chuck will happen to be in NY City the weekend of our show. So Jim will fill the Saturday slot and Chuck will fill the Sunday slot that Mike Sigler was scheduled for. The recently mailed flyer reflects the changes as does the web site.
Thanks again friends for your wonderful support of our PSGA show. We are all members of the same family. God Bless! |

Let's look at it from the other end of the spectrum.......
If there is NO PSGA STEEL GUITAR SHOW.......we can all save $50.00......
Wouldn't that be wonderful? I know that with that $50.00, I can buy an 18" Rigid pipe wrench, and still have $2.33 left over for some McDonald's...... |

Howard are you a plumber or does one of your vintage steel guitars need heavy adjustment?
Hope you will be with us in CT and possibly write up the show as before. |

I am so looking forward to the priviledge of the performances to come at the PSGA show! The room is just right, very intimate, with excellent sound. The crew always sets up a camera focused on the player's hands and instrument so the close-up and personal quality of the show is taken to another level. It will be a pleasure to be able to talk in a relaxed way with the players, and see old friends. The band is pro-quality from the metro NYC area. In NYC it's common to pay more than 3 times what is being charged, and for a much shorter bill.
I hope everyone from the metro NY area will attend so we can continue to have this great show!
See you all there,

I've been a PSGA member for many years and have contributed articles and licks to the newsletter, but I've never had the opportunity to attend one of the shows. When I was working, work schedule did not allow time off (and I was in Kansas City, Mo). Now that I'm retired, "fixed income" prevents me from attending, although I would have loved to attend at least once. I consider going to the PSGA show at least one time similar to you have to go to St Louis at least one time.
Good luck with the Show, Bob and crew. |

Jack:
Time keeps marching on. I would very much like to see you at one of our annual PSGA shows (before we all get too old to travel anymore). Both you and Don Sulesky have continued to keep the Florida club alive and very active. That is dedication that is hard to come by in this day and age. We were fortunate to have Don helping us in the past. He is a hard worker and a friend to all steel players, as you are as well.. |

A bump for Bob and the PSGA. I am going to miss you all this year.
It would be great to have Jack join us some time soon as I sure would love to meet him in person. I have been spinning his music quite a bit on "Swingin' West" radio show. Great to see the good words for our buddy Don. _________________ Mike |
