I am trying to scan a blank form and get it into word so I can use it as a template for future lesson plans. The first few times it went in as a jpeg which didn't help. I clicked b/w copy and told it to save it. For some reason, a few lines are missing when it goes. If I scan it and email it to myself, could the doc be opened and edited? I may have to just download it at school on a memory stick and bring it home.

No. What you're doing is creating an image of the document. What needs to be done is a conversion from pdf to a Word document. So, if you have Acrobat, save the scan as a pdf, then open the file in Acrobat. Choose File > Save As. In the Save As dialog box, choose Microsoft Word Document from the pop-up menu.

When you scan a document that you want to import to MS Word, you need an "OCR" program (Optical Character Recongnition) to process and convert the scanned document into a useable form by the Wordprocessor program. Some scanners (or all in one's) come wth a basic OCR program, however the basic programs will OCR the document but there most likely will be errors in the conversion. You need a better OCR program to get a more accurate OCR conversion.

If you scan the document as a jpg (or some other graphic form), you can place that in the wordprocessor but you will not be able to modify the document.
