| Masterful! I'm certain the chap playing ukulele (standing beside Sol) is our old friend, (the late) BUD TUTMARC. Also, Sol's eyesight was deteriorating about the time that pic was taken. He eventually went blind. |

I liked it so much I figured it out. I didn't bother to tab it because it's easy to remember. Anyone of you guys/gals can figure it out... I used A6 but any tuning will do. Just work the first part around that open top E string . Or top D string as the case may be. It's easy!!

Bud had an extensive library of Sol Ho'opii recordings with rights to distribute them.

I bought the 9 CD set too, and it's great - not only for the Hoopii stuff, but also for hearing what Bud (and his father, Paul Tutmarc Sr.) sounded like. There are also clips of Belva Dickerson (I'm assuming of Dickerson steels?) and others. The set closes with a heartbreaking recording of Sol's last public performance, as well as some interesting jam session material.
A question for those who also have these CDs - Sol and the Tutmarcs sound very much alike in these recordings... Is everyone using the same tuning? I'm wondering if this is the C#m tuning spoken about in the Rounder CD liner notes (B D E G# C# E), or is it something else? |

Yes, to both questions. Bud Tutmarc adopted Sol Ho'opii's C#m tuning and used it exclusively throughout his life. He used a six string instrument also for the tuning.
