The format for the last main stage set of the HSGA Joliet 2007 Convention (Saturday 2:45 PM) has been tentatively finalized (tentatively finalized?? Whoa! ). This is the set before the main convention room closes for luau preparations.

Announcing Hula Ba-Lue-sah (copyright 2007 HSGA)!

It seems that every Hawaiian style steel guitarist knows and plays a version of the classic tune 'Hula Blues'.
Here's the idea...

A steel guitar (on legs) tuned to C6 will be setup on the floor in front of the stage. A human rhythm section made up of a bass, guitar and ukulele will play Hula Blues (in F) over and over and over again. Any Steel guitarist in attendance will be invited to come up and play through the song 2-3 times.

This will be a great opportunity to show off the different styles and influences we all bring to the Hawaiian Steel Guitar. And it will be an excellent video opportunity.

There will be a signup sheet at the convention if you'd like to participate. We also need somebody to volunteer their steel guitar.

Choreography is very important for this to work. While one steel guitarist is playing, the next one in line must be standing near them in order to play the tune without any breaks.

Think it'll work? Suggestions? Ideas?

Caveat: If an HSGA member shows up at the convention and wants to fill this now open slot, Hula Ba-Lue-sah will happen at the late night jams.

Rick,

You camcord it. I'll post it on the HSGA website.

You better put the camera on a tripod and put it on auto-pilot because we need to hear your version of the tune.

Deal?
