Here are three new ukulele/Dobro tunes for the Holiday season. I recorded these over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Two solo uke numbers played on my Lanikai CK-T Tenor Uke:
It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree

A full band arrangement where I play all the instruments; Tenor Uke, Dobro (Beard GoldTone Mahogony), Guitar, Bass, MIDI Steel Drums (pans):
Chanukah Oh Chanukah

It's nice when someone uses their Thanksgiving weekend for something besides eating and watching football. Great arrangements, Gerald!

Hey Gerald, Rockin Around the Christmas was dynamite. Very nice picking. Could you teach me that one? What key was that in? Kris

Gerald, listened to it again and makes me want to drag the uke out and put the steel back in the case. I think you are right up there with James Hill. You would definitely WOW any audience. Kris

Kris,

Rockin' Around is in C on the uke. If you think guitar positions it's in G. Five chords G, A, C and D, the minor chord is a Bm (guitar positions).

Thanks for the compliments.

Gerald, now you lost me cuz I don't know guitar chords. Would you call your music synchopated beat? I'm with George. Those fingers are busy.

I really enjoyed those songs Gerald!
Especially 'Chanukah Oh Chanukah'- nice melody and you've got a great beat with it. A perfect song for Dobro, too.

Kris,

Being a guitar player I look at the uke as a tiny guitar. The intervals between the strings are the same as the top 4 strings on the guitar. The uke tuning though, is a fourth higher. So a "C" chord shape on a uke is an "F" chord in concert pitch, a "D" shape is a "G" etc.

Jeff,
The beat is "3AM Jewish wedding Mogen David grapevine".

Most minor key songs like this fit in well for any ethnic group. Example: When I play the song "Anniversary Waltz" at an Italian, Jewish, Greek, Polish, German etc. wedding it goes over like gang busters because each group claims the song as their own.

Ahhh...good 'ol Mogen David at 3 AM? Brings back memories. When I used to stay at my Grandmother's house as a kid, I would occassionaly sneak downstairs after everyone went to bed and sip on the Mogen David. She said the doctor told her to drink it for her angina (heart) pain. She caught me red handed a few times (I guess I made a lot of noise in the kitchen), and eventually brought it up one morning at the breakfast table in front of my Dad. When he questioned me about it, I explained to him that it was for my angina pain, but I don't think he bought it..

It's not hard to "bring up" Mogen David. That stuff is wretched.
