What bars do you use?

I've got a Sho-Bud 10 string (non-pedal) practice board I'd like to start using to learn lap C6. I was wondering if most of you non-peddlers use those weird shaped grip bars (don't know what they're called) or if there's any reason not to use my Pearse bullit-shaped bar (the one I use for pedal) as that's what I'm used to.

Hi Scott,
You don't have to use a Stevens bar. For lap steel, you might find a smaller bullet bar - 2 7/8" by 3/4" - more suitable. [This message was edited by Rick Alexander on 26 November 2005 at 12:04 PM.]

I have several bars, but the two that I use most are my Shubb-Pearce #2 (dobro style) bar and my Pearce 10 String pedal steel bar. I like the Shubb-Pearce #2 because it is very easy to hold, almost part of my hand, I can move very fast with it and single noting, slants, hammer-ons and pull-offs are easy. I like the 10 String bar due to its mass which gives me a more pure tone and more sustain. I use both bars for both dobro and non-pedal steel and sometimes alternate bars between songs in the same set. I also have a BJS Hawaiian bar, but it is just too small for my hands and they cramp after I've been using it for a few minutes. I think it is a great bar for people with smaller hands.
