I have my first lap steel, an oahu, on standby in Arizona, we are trying to find a good shipping deal. Has anyone out there shipped a lap or similar to the UK fron the US and if so could you remember who with and roughly how much ? ie usps, fedex, ups etc, weighs about 15lbs in standard lap steel case. Thanks in advance folks

Hi Kevin,
I have had fantastic luck with the United States Postal Service. I've shipped two items via their "priority express" service.
The first to Australia it got there on the fourth day and cost $72.65 at the time (6 months ago) the next was to our own Steinar Gregartsen in Norway. that took 7 days if I'm not mistaken but I had sent it out just before a holiday weekend-I suspect that added a day or two. Both arrived unscathed. The trip to Norway cost $76.54
The only "problem" I ran into was the size limits of the carton. I was not able to ship them in a case. It made the box too big and I had to ship in a gig bag. Perhaps on the less expensive services the size limits are less restrictive.
Cheers!

Kevin, I would follow Jason's suggestion and ship via US Priority Mail. As Jason said there is a size limitaion, I can't remember what it is now....seems like 40" but don't hold me to that. I would not ship the US Postal cheaper ways. They do not have size restrictions but they are very roughly treated and can take much longer to get there, (that from my local Post Master). The Priority Mail is the best deal going, safer than any other in my experience.
Cheers, Ron

The size limitations doesn't apply to all countries, check at www.usps.com for shipping to the UK.
I've had several lap steels shipped by USPS, Global Priority Mail or Global Express, never had any problems with them. Global Express is only 3-5 days but cost a little more, probably around $100-120 to the UK.

Many thanks gents, thats just what I needed,
should have my little beauty on the way now
By the way, my new album Tin Church is now up and running on CDbaby. You might like the guitar on the cover, made by Johhny Kinkade in Bristol UK, not featured on the album but maybe the next one
