Other than his work with The Sons of Hawaii, are there any recordings that show off the playing of David "Feet" Rogers? Who else did he play with, and did he ever record a "solo" album?

Sorry for all the "quote marks", but you can't write about "Feet" without them.

Aloha Mitch,

I have two LP's Called "Kani Ka Pila" Volumes I & II -- excellent steel by "Feet"
also Gabby Pahinui plays steel. Very good.
Derrick Mau, Bobby Ingano and Jeff Au Hoy may know info about recordings as I believe Bobby and Derrick knew him personally.

Hope this helps you.

Warren

Those are two good albums which have now have been released to CD. The covers have been changed from the original vinyl LP. Volume 1 is all Feet Rogers, Volume 2 - all Gabby Pahinui on steel.

There is 3 albums with the Sons Of Hawaii with Gabby in it.

There was an earlier LP called "This Is Eddie Kamae". Robert Larrison and Atta Isaac are featured.

The Sons Of Hawaii also did a Christmas album called "Christmas Time with Eddie Kamae & the Sons Of Hawaii".

The Sons Of Hawaii also did a special vinyl LP for National Geographic called the "The Music Of Hawaii". Rare LP, only an "X" amount was pressed.

Feet also recorded with Bill Kaiwa, "Bill Kaiwa Sings At Maunalahilahi" (Hula Records)

And with Marchella Kalua "Girl From Papakoloea" (Makaha) Very rare LP

Thanks for the info. I will definately check out the albums that were suggested. Apparently Feet's gig with the Sons of Hawaii was enough to keep him occupied. I love his playing but never seem to get enough. Thanks again and a happy holiday to all.

Hello,

I'm very interested in buying these CDs with Feets Rogers and Gabby. I've tried searching the album title "Kani Ka Pila," but I haven't found a place to purchase the CDs.

Any leads?

Thanks!
Steve

Hey Jeff,

Thanks for the quick response.

I've checked mele.com and I couldn't find any albums with that name.

Are these Sons of Hawaii albums, or are they under another name?

Thanks, Steve
