I recently happened across a DVD called 50 Watt Fuse about G.E. Smith's career as a sideman. It mentions Fender makes a signature model Telecaster that borrowed features from a Fender lap steel G.E. likes (see link to article below)

In addition to the walk down memory lane, the DVD also features a concert with G.E. and David Lindley playing together. It's about an hour-long set with Lindley on steel--both acoustic and electric--on 7 of 8 songs. Lindley (and GE) also appears accompanying Hot Tuna on a song, but that part is interrupted by interview segments.

p.s. I found the DVD at Best Buy, but it also can be had via amazon.com

Fender has posted a promo video on YouTube where GE discusses his Signature Tele. He takes apart an old Fender Lap Steel discuss the pickup.

Thanks for the link. I really enjoyed watching that. G.E. comes across as a nice guy with a genuine love for the instruments and the history.

Whoaa! I just got finished watching this and the concert footage is great. It's not often you get that kind of video quality to see Lindley's work. It's worth a Netflix rental, definitely.
