Does anyone know of any clips available - videos, DVDs or whatever - of The Newton Brothers, featuring Wayne Newton playing Steel? By all accounts he was amazing, so I'd sure like to see & hear for myself.

I don't know why he gave it up - he might have made it big if he'd stuck with it . .

Yeah, he could have made literally tens of dollars playing one of these things...

If I'm not mistaken that was in Phoenix, right?

I posted something a long time ago looking for similar info, but had no luck. I know he was on the old Muskateer's show. I heard that he played steel guitar rag one one of the shows, and was peeking at the audience from under his guitar while playing. I'm sure if someone could find a library of the old Muskateer's show, there might be that episode (and more goodies) in there. He is quite a showman and I hope to see him perform one day. I've always been a big fan of his singing and stylings.

I wonder if Wayne ever plays a steel guitar anymore even just for fun.

I took lessons when Wayne and Jerry were around in Roanoke, VA. The teacher was Elmer Ridenhour who has since passed. I may be able to get in touch with Elmer's son Jimmy who operates the music store now.

No video. Haven't heard it, so don't know about the steel content. You'd think a tune like "Out Arizona Way" would have steel. Considering Marty's affection for the steel, I'd guess he encouraged Wayne on the instrument.

The Bear Family site says that customers who bought the Newton Brithers CD also bought Jenks Carman.

Wayne played the Stardust in LV until recently. I was at the Stardust for two days last week. Steve Lawrence and Edie Gorme are playing in that theater now.

If I add any information on this topic you will think Im bragging. I have known Jerry and Wayne since 1960 when they first came to New York to do the Ed Sullivan show.If I get the courage to add my info on these two boys I will,but for the time being I will read what is posted.

I understand Steve and Edie played at the Sands a long time. I never saw them there (maybe before my time). The Sands was imploded; and now the Venetian is built on that property.

I think he had a zerk fitting installed wher he had the howdydoody-ectomy Got really greasy and the pitch dropped too.
