Once again I’d like to remind everybody about my upcoming performance at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena. This is the first time the Coffee Gallery has presented a steel guitarist in concert. As far as I know it is the first time In Southern California that a steel guitar has ever appeared in concert at a venue that caters to the general public, and not to the steel guitar community.
It is also a first for me in 2 ways. It will be the first time (aside from steel guitar shows) that I will be performing under my own name, as opposed to accompanying some singer or playing on somebody else’s band, and it will be the first time (again, aside from steel shows) where the members of the audience will be sitting quietly and actually listening instead of talking, drinking, dancing and playing pool.
I hope everybody within a reasonable driving distance will attend. (It’s probably best to phone ahead for reservations.) If the club does well, they will have me back, and possibly bring in other steel guitarists.
Thanks in advance for your support.
Mike

I had the opportunity to hear a private concert from a Mike a few weeks ago, and I REALLY liked what I heard. Mike is a friend, but my posting here is an objective statement that this show will be quite good and well worth attending. If you live in the area, I highly recommend attending and not missing out.

Thanks Thom. You know you're right, this IS going to be one of the musical experiences of the year, but not because of me. The main act, the Australian group NOUGAT us truly spectacular. The 2 ladies are each award winning virtuosos and they've been playing together for a few years and have that kind of cohesiveness that only comes from that kind of time together.
As for me, I am hoping to get through the evening without making a total fool of myself. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Mikey,
Good luck with the gig. I'm sure you'll do fine. Just don't play "Way to Survive". They probably wouldn't appreciate it anyway.
Go get 'em.. |

Actually "Away to survive" is a well written tune and these people probably never heard it before (like we, of the steel community, have a million times or more.) If you do do it, do it your way.
Maybe as a waltz?
In any case, I wish you a successful fun-filled night. All the best, Mike. |

I'm not going to play ANY country songs, but last year at the L.A. Jam I was fooling around with the song in 5/4 time, and our fellow forumite John McDuffie renamed the song. A way to sur-five.
Here is the song list
1- Can't Take My Eyes Off You.
2- Old Man River.
3- Medley: Killing Me Softly and the them from Arthur. (Should this be called Killing Arthur Softly?)
4- Jingle Bell Rock (Best to do it now before everybody gets sick of hearing it)
5- Georgia On My Mind.
6- What A Wonderful World (On which I'll be joined by the ladies from nougat.)
7- Medley: When You Wish Upon A Star, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, and I Can See Clearly Now.
Again, thanks to everybody for your well wishes and support, and I hope to see as many of you as possible in the audience. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.
