Thinking of Bobbe being inducted possibly made me think of a couple other people that should be there also. Ron Lashley Sr., Del Mullin, and Leo Fender came to mind. Any thoughts?

No, you don't have to be a picker. Tom Bradshaw is best known for his non-picking contributions to steel guitar.

Dan Dugmore needs to be up on that wall. His discography is amazing. Ronstadt, James Taylor, Trisha Yearwood, David Crosby, Martina McBide, Suzy Boguss, Travis Tritt, The Pointer Sisters, Patty Loveless, Tim McGraw, Toby Keith, Willie Nelson, Hank The Third, Matreca Berg, Deanna Carter,on and on and on. Theres not enough room on the page to list them all. Thats besides all his road tours.

I agree about Dan but I was more interested in why more of the builders weren't in there. Leo was there in the beginning of the advancement of the pedal steel. Ron was instrumental in the building of the first Emmons. if not for these guys mentioned and a few others, steel guitar might have gone a different direction.

On builders, I'd certainly go with Ron Lashley Sr. and Bud Carter - Emmons and MSA/MCI/Carter are part of the bedrock of steel guitar building history. Of course, I'd vote for Leo Fender for anything you wanted to put him up for.

On players, besides Bobbe and in no particular order - Bruce Bouton, Tommy White, David Lindley (yes, he plays lap steel guitar), Dan Dugmore, Joe Wright, Johnny Cox, Randy Beavers, Frank Rogers, Robbie Turner, Sonny Garrish, Randy Reinhard, Junior Knight, Russ Hicks, Stu Basore, Julian Tharpe, Chuck Campbell, Cindy Cashdollar, Dicky Overbey, Larry Sasser, Norm Hamlet, Mike Johnson, and I'm sure lots of others that don't come to mind right away. I don't think they're gonna run out of candidates anytime soon, and I think there are lots of deserving people out there. Which is why I don't think we should get into an uproar when our favorite doesn't make it one year or another.

There sure has been a lot of name calling and mud slinging the last few days about this HOF fame debacle.Seems most of this is based on personel opinions.I have been known to start some threads that I knew may be controversial,But I will say up front[This is my opinion ONLY]If Jim S thinks S.P.could walk on water that's his opinion,I think the same about Curly,so what ?Saw an article awhile back in Guitar Player about the top 100 guitar players,seems Jimi was number one,I would not have had him in the poll,That's just my opinion,should I be demonized for it,don't think so.I'm a rare bird that never cared for the Beatles,nor Otis Redding,99 percent of my close friends think they were the greatest thing since indoor plumbing,so what,we are still friends.I love a good heated debate,keeps things from being boring,It CAN be done in a civil manner without insults,hurt feelings,name calling,etc.I assume EVERY ONE on this forum has ONE thing in common,STEEL GUITAR ,if not why are you here?It's a great place that Bob has given us that we can debate,argue,share ideas,learn from each other, If something ruffles your feathers and you disagree then say so.Just do it with class,courtesy,adult civilized manner,instead of at a kindergarden level,Bet there would not be as many CLOSED posts.O.K.that my opinion,Yours is welcome,Don't you know.

I believe if its an international SGA that some of the Foreign over the water players should get some real consideration also,Including the far east..These guys and girls have spread the word with their playing and thus growing popularity of the instrument world wide...Most of us are spoiled with the U.S. legends which we have access to their accomplishments.. We were not aware or exposed to the out of country greats until Scotty brought them over to be in the St. Louis show.

Well here's my wish list for the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame and they are all long overdue:

Julian Tharpe, Sonny Garrish, Norm Hamlett, Kayton Roberts.

Each of them has done so much for steel guitar and the music industry. They truly deserve this honor.

May they make it someday!!!
