Hey guys! First of all, I want to tell you how impressed I have been with the wealth of knowledge that has come my way as a result of posting questions on this board. You guys are awesome and I thank you so much for the great information you have given me!
Secondly, I am continuing with my K&F lap steel restoration and wanted to know if anyone knows what size capacitor might have originally come in this guitar. It has a modern .05 +/- 10% 600 in it right now but I don't know if that was what it originally came with. It would be cool to find a NOS original paper cap that is the correct size that I could put in it.
As always, thanks for all of your help and take care!

Over the years I've been inside a lot of old steels and to my best of my knowledge and recollection the .05 cap was the standard one used in tone controls!! I don't think you can go wrong with using the one thats in that K & F lap steel !! Good luck !!!! Eddie "C" ( the old geezer ) |

A .05 mfd. cap would probably be what it came with, although there are sometimes .01 or maybe something else from time to time. It really should not make any difference what cap is there until you turn the tone knob and bring it into the circuit. The bigger the value, the more highs are sent to ground (more bass) at a given setting. when it's on 10, all the signal should bypass the short and make its way out your cord to your amp. _________________ Time flies like an eagle

There are reproductions now available of original vintage capacitors that were in the '50s era Fenders, which were probably the same ones used on
K&F.
They look just like the originals except they have a high quality modern cap encapsulated inside.
Check out Vintage Guitar mag or Ebay. |
