I have posted about Megan Hickey of LTC before, and this is the second time I have seen her live. She played at a Borders bookstore, in a short set highlighting her material from the Wire Waltz album. Megan has an unusual approach to lap steel, and she has become more proficient on the instrument since I saw her last. I thought the lap steel would be a bit too much in a bookstore environment, but she was very comfortable and had a good crowd. She is playing a new Asher Electro Hawaiian, a great instrument; though I missed seeing her with her Oahu Tonemaster. If you get a chance, check out her music- she may give you some new ideas about approaching the instrument, and she is a really good listen. I wish I had been able to attend her full show that evening, but an allergy to cigarette smoke made that impossible. I will certainly see her again! |

I was just thinking of her, there was a photo of Megan with her Oahu in the Chicago Reader when she played here last, but I didn't remember the band name. I couldn't make that show, won't miss the one coming up though.
Happen to know what tuning/s she uses?
Thanks for the info! |

She plays in open D, if my ear hasn't quit on me. I hadn't thought to ask her. |
