I'm really gettin hooked on Hawaiian steel and was wonderin if anyone has a good source for chords to Hawaiian tunes. I ordered some of Jerry Byrds tabs from Scotty's and they're excellent but they don't include the chords to the songs. BTW here's a link to Lyrics to Hawaiian Songs if anyone is interested. |

The thing I hated about those King's Books is that it was poorly binded. The pages would literally fall out after a few weeks.
Get this book instead. "He Mele Aloha - A Hawaiian Songbook", by Carol Wilcox, Kimo Hussey.
Every Hawaiian musician in Hawaii has this book. 283 pages of songs with chords.

If you love Hawaiian music you should try listening to KKCR Kauai Community Radio. They broadcast Hawaiian music on weekday mornings (Hawaiian time zone) with excellent DJ's, among them Auntie Maria from mele.com. They also broadcast automated programmed Hawaiian music overnight. You can listen live at kkcr.org
A great resource for any Hawaiian music lover, you can also pickup the North Shore surf reports. |

Rick you were right, the chords are right there below the tab. I guess it's time for another eye exam. That "King's book" looks good though thanks for the link and thanks to all for the info. |

I have an excellent book by Hal Leonard Publishing. Its called Favorite Hawaiian Songs. Their number is HL00359852. Got my copy on Kuai about 12 years ago. All the chords are in there and there's about 30 songs in it.
Just checked their on-line web-site and its still available. All the best from Wales...Patrick |

I'm still a big fan of the Charles E King books.
The "He Mele Aloha" book is good for the Hawaiian musician who already knows the tunes and needs a reference for lyrics. However, it does NOT contain any music notation (i.e., you won't learn any melodies from it). |
