Rick Aiello - 9 AM Saturday.

9 AM???

So... if you stay up until 5 AM on Friday night, hit Bob Evans at 5:30 for breakfast, tell jokes over coffee until 8:45... that'll give you 15 minutes to brush your teeth and tune up your guitar.

Sounds like standard Joliet operating procedure to me. Wink

Well I don't want to miss the Saturday morning show.
It promises to be . . interesting.
At the St Louis show I went on first, and that was kind of good in a way.

I'm on at 3:10 Thursday, so I'll have all day to work up a good case of the heebie jeebies.
But what am I worried about - I'll have a real good band behind me!

It's good to see that Don Fullmer is up and around. Smile

Playing to an audience of steel players and others who know steel guitar music very well isn't the easiest gig, but you'll get thru it fine. Seems like the first minute is the tough part Very Happy

Thanks Bill, you're right it's not the easiest gig.
I sang and played guitar for a living for over 40 years and never got nervous.
But that was mostly for drunks and random fun seekers.

The first steel show I played was the most nerve-wracking.
It seems to get a little easier every time . .

Yeah, it took some arm twisting, but we got Ian to agree to a solo set on Saturday.

Ian is one of my favorites (Fascinatin' Rhythm - WOW!)

Listen to Ian Ufton

I think Bernice uses C#m on one neck of her guitar ( she's had that guitar since new!) I like that tuning, and wish I could get around on it better. Very Happy

Speaking of Dave G.-- the Joliet-bound are in for a little extra treat this year. I caught his band the Hula Monsters at Chick Hall's Surf Club In Hyattsville, Md. on Saturday night...their usual mix of Hawaiian, Western swing, rockabilly, rock'n'roll & more...a full house, non-stop dancing, Dave playing great as always, with one difference: the Potbelly in his Sierra. The Hula Monster has got hold of a monster pickup, and man-- that's the best "live" electric steel guitar sound I've ever heard.

If y'all are sitting near "proud papa" Aiello during Dave's Joliet performance, make sure he ain't wearin' a hat-- 'cause it'd probably be too small by the end of the first tune!

The Hammer steps in!

Unfortunately new HSGA member Noel Tardy will not be performing a solo set at Joliet on Friday morning.

Noel will still be attending the convention and will be available for backup uke work for whoever needs her, and she will be sitting in during my set!

So who get's the open slot on the show?

Harry "The Hammer" Dietrich!
