Here's a photo I took in St. Louis last Saturday at dusk. This one is low res for the Forum, but I think you can still appreciate the brilliant glow of the sun going down on the Arch.

What is the story behind the building of the arch, Linda said you could go up in it for a ways. Does any one know why it was built.

If I remember correctly the arch is considered "The Gateway To The West". I have been in the top of it the three times I have been to St. Louis. It is a very nice view if you do not mind getting up high. You cannot see outside while going to the top but the top has a window on both sides for a spectuclar view. It is well worth the time and money going up in the top of the arch.

The original plan called for a huge statue of a croquet player on the Illinois side.

While working on a project with UMR at the Arch I got to go on top with a maintanance guy and help change the beacon lite.
It was so windy we had to wear saftey ropes. I have never been that scared in all my life. You can feel the Arch moving back and forth. You actually think it's falling down. whew eeeee :whoa:

I went up in the arch in 1971.
What a view and the people down below looked like ants.

Wow, that's a great pic Donna.

I took a photo of the arch from my hotel window, but the only visual enhancements in mine are the smudges on the window . .

Miss Donna, That is a super shot of the Arch!

My feeble attempt was from the lobby of the Millenium. The window smudged it a bit.
