After years of looking for a D8 Fender guitar in Germany I finally found one.
It is a Dual Professional with case, used but all original. Before buying I checked the tuners. They were ok.
I was very happy. But then I put on strings for a E13 tuning. While putting on a .054 lowest string the tuner broke. Searching the forum tells me that this was too much for the tuner. 8-(

With the pickup selecter in the middle position there is a little shortening of volume. Is this normal ??

Sorry about the tuner. Look on the bright side. Now you have a 7 stringer! Smile

With both pickups on the volume is always a bit lower. Oh Well

I've had a .54 on the bottom string for a long time now with no problem . I keep the tuning key shaft and gear lubricated and turn them gently while tuning since they are older than my fifty six years

Dan,
I will dismount the tuning pan and view the damage.
Hope I find someone who can fix it.

Thomas,Please reply with a picture of the broken tuner. Believe it or not I am taking 13 good tuners out of my D-8 Dual Professional as I am going to upgrade/replace all of them. I am planing on selling these good tuners in Sets of 8 ,and 4 but there will also be lots of good parts from the other tuners that are missing the Lollipop buttons. I may have some parts that may help you. Fred

I used .056w for a Lo-E on my Fender Custom and a .070w for a Lo-A with never a problem. My Custom was a ’49–’50 model and original on the tuners. The best non-pedal guitar I've ever owned!
