Here's a very good Western Swing band called the Ridgetop Syncopators, live from Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Requires the Real Player to listen and/or view: http://www.kennedy-center.org/programs/millennium/artist_detail.cfm?artist_id=RIDGESYN CO

Features George Carver on lap steel!

A very quality group. I would go see them in a minute. Or maybe a second.

Aloha,

Brad, that's a big 10-4. George Carver, wow...what a great swingin' sound. Like local (hula) monster Dave Giegerich, someone whose playing is a joy and an education to see and listen to.

Brad, that is really excellent. A nice long clip and good quality. I'm gonna have to check out that site for more performances.

Is George playing a Fender?

Dan-- look at his website, it's a single-neck Stringmaster (Deluxe 8?). I know you prefer the traps (me too) but he's getting a righteous tone from that board. --Steve

I had the great pleasure of meeting George Carver recently when he paid a visit "downunder". My wife and I were playing in a local restaurant and he was passing by. He popped his head in and immediately came up and said "22 and a half inch scale?". Instantly clicked. Lovely guy and great player. He came to our band gig the next night and sat in. Not only is he a wonderful steel player (one of his neighbours is Cindy Cashdollar) but also good on six string spanish, lovely singer and a phenomenal chromatic harmonica player. A true "National treasure" ... his music and playing is really hip. He was visiting with his son, Noah.
