I have a mostly gutted D-10 Miller from the early sixties. Mechanically it is truly aufull, however after having the pups rewound by Mr. Wallace it sounds truly excellent. Have any of you removed the pulls and peds to have a D-10 non pedal. I propose to use my favorite (low-high) E-G-B-D-E-G-B-D-E-G on the lower neck and G#-B-E-F#-G#-B-E-G#-D-F#. i HAVE FOOLED WITH THIS SOME AND FOUND THAT THINKING ABOUT THE STRING MOVEMENT OF THE PEDS AS A GUIDE THAT i CAN GET A LOT OUT OF THE TUNING. Only it has that non-ped pysical feel. I need lots more single-note lines, but I like that anyway. What do you think? _________________ RICK ABBOTT

I removed the pedals from a Sho-Bud Maverick, installed a Bill Lawrence pickup and cut some aluminum tubing for longer legs so that I could play it standing up in a rock-a-billy band. My tuning was E13, low to high E G# B D E G# B C# E G#.
It worked great - a classy look and sound from what used to be an inferior instrument. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

b0b; Is there any particular reason why you didn't eliminate one of the lower strings and include the F# on #6? ie... E~B~D~E~F#~G#~B~C#~E~G# = E13. This version affords a bit more chordal possabilities, as opposed to: E~G#~B~D~E~G#~B~C#~E~G# = E13. _________________ <marquee> Go~Daddy~Go, (No), Go, It's your Break Time</marquee> L8R, jb

I was playing a lot of the low rock-a-billy guitar licks at the time. |

Bob do you have any recordings of your rockabilly days. I have always loved that era of music and would love to know how you handled that style on a steel. |

I personally would have found a way to keep some of the mechanics to at least do some single string 1/2 step pulls. No mechanics are that bad! Having the ability to raise or lower a couple of strings on any tuning is worth the effort when converting a pedal guitar to mainly non pedal. |

Thanks for the reply. I have it set to do A-B and Elower. I may keep those. The thrill is having to make the sounds of steel with the hands. _________________ RICK ABBOTT

Rick, I have been playing a S 10 that started life out with two pedals and four knee levers. My dad built it in 1972. I stripped it out and was going to modernize it but I have been enjoying standing up and playing it on western swing songs. It's a lot like a Sho-Bud with a C 6th with a D on top. |
