Hi there,

This may have been discussed before but I see that the Cindy Cashdollar instructional video uses an 8 string instrument. Does anybody know, can you use the video with a 6 string?

Thanks a bunch

Paul

Most definitely. I only had a Fender Champion when I first got those video tapes and was able to play everything with the 6 string Fender. Incidently, both videos were great.

One of the best videos around. I also suggest the Kelly Joe Phelps video

BTW Paul, you can find those videos on eBay all the time if you haven't bought them yet.

Yes, but if you find them on ebay make sure you check the price. I have seen many of the Homespun instruction tapes on ebay for as much or more than they cost, new.

Buy it new. That's how Musicians make a living. The few bucks you tight-wads are saving on this don't amount to much in the long run. I pinch my pennys elsewhere.

Paul, the posters who replied to you failed to mention that you can use Cindy's instructions on a six string. All you do is drop the two bottom strings. Her tuning is is C6th by the way.

I cut my teeth on the steel guitar with her videos and they did give me all the basics to get me started. There are a few things on her course that should have a little more follow up; however, what she offers is all you need to get started.

Many of the ebay book and video sellers are selling new product, not used stuff, and while they're selling at quite a discount over the music stores, they probably paid the same wholesale to the orignal video producers, and the "artist" is getting the same cut...
Ebay's not just a big garage sale...

I agree with what Mark above has to say.
I bought both Cindy's Video and BIAB on eBay at a discount and they were new.
I don't believe the artist or original mfg. of these items lost out. I think the "middle man" has less overhead and more volume than a storefront retailer and so can offer a discount.
One thing I noticed in Cindy's DVD. She seems to get a little confused when discribing the string tuning for a six string relative to her eight string.
I lent my DVD to someone else so can't confirm this, however,I think she says the difference is you leave off the bottom two strings.
I'm not sure that this is correct. If I'm not mistaken it should be the top and bottom strings that get left off. Maybe someone could confirm or correct this for me. <font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Mark Vinbury on 30 October 2005 at 10:52 AM.]</p></FONT><font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Mark Vinbury on 30 October 2005 at 11:01 AM.]</p></FONT>

Mark I think your right about the "top and bottom" strings bein left off for the 6 string version, But as I stated before everything CAN be played with a 6 string set up tuned (low to high) C E G A C E. Cindy's tuning I believe is A C E G A C E G so you can see the middle 6 is what a 6 string guitar would be tuned to. San Antonio Rose lays out better on an 8 string with the G on top but I had no problem adjusting without it when I first started with her video.

Andy-Thanks for confirming that for me.
Cindy describes the layout wrong and the misinformation is repeated in the post above by Les.
Seems like a good thing to get cleared up.I know it caused me a bit of head scratching when I first started with her DVD. <font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Mark Vinbury on 03 November 2005 at 10:21 AM.]</p></FONT>
