In case some of you aren't subscribers to Bobbe Seymour's newsletter, in today's edition he writes of the SuperSlide and how it is becoming increasingly popular with some of the "top dogs" in the steel guitar world. As I save my pennies toward one, I get tugged on with the desire to purchase a pedal steel guitar instead-so that I can play the instrument the "big boys" play. I say that in jest, because no one has any greater respect than I do for musicians like the great Jerry Byrd. I'm a dobro and 6-string lap guy, and I get this feeling that even though I REALLY want a SuperSlide, I won't be satisfied until I climb that mountain and become at least a passable pedal steel guitar player in my lifetime-and that to put out a relatively healthy chunk of change for a SuperSlide is going to prevent me from ever picking up a pedal guitar for a good long time (bills,teenagers,college,cars,bills,wife,mortgage,etc.-you get the picture).

I hope Bobbe doesn't mind that I pasted it here-but I enjoyed reading about this:

"Bobbe’s Nashville News,

The new MSA SuperSlide is starting to blaze a trail not only around the world from the many discriminating players who have opted to purchase one after becoming aware of it’s qualities, but also in the studios of Nashville.

Maurice Anderson, in a conversation with Paul Franklin, was told that Paul had used his SuperSlide on a PBS Special with Martina McBride and on Martina’s recording sessions along with the You Can Be A Star winner, Carrie Underwood session and no telling what else it has been used on since.

Expect to see Tommy White setting the airwaves on fire soon with his new SuperSlide. The great Mike Aldridge of world wide resonator guitar (Dobro style) fame is playing a double neck 8 string on records and on live appearances. We all know Randy Beavers, one of the most brilliant minds that ever picked up a bar, is absolutely playing more than most people can believe on his 12 string SuperSlide.

Take heart all you non-pedal players, looks like your day is back. All this goes to show that this fine instrument has been accepted by great players everywhere.

The world seems to be full of great, old, historic lapsteels, some of which have attained some astronomical monetary values. We have had hundreds of these great guitars through our store but in my humble opinion, regardless of the values or historical significance placed upon these vintage instruments, I myself and many others highly prefer the tone, feel and quality of the SuperSlide when it comes to going out and playing a serious job.

I only wish I would have had one when I did my lapsteel album three years ago. I can assure you my next non-pedal album will be done on a SuperSlide."

Mark....Thank you for your nice words about the SuperSlide, and I'm delighted to know you plan to have one in the future. We could have a guitar laying across your lap, on a stand, or standing up with a strap, in a matter of days.

Thanks Reece, I'm climbing that hill of bills right now before I can free up the cash-it'll be awhile longer before I place my order. I'm hoping when Bobby Black plays a gig nearby next month that he brings his new SuperSlide with him, so I can check it out "up close and personal."

Mark....thank you for your response and honesty. I talked with Bobby Black a couple weeks ago and he told me his SuperSlide goes where he goes. Hope you two can hook up.
