I recently attended a steel guitar convention
where a fun time was had by all.

Among the many steelers who played, was a young Canadian fellow that many of you likely know.

Not only can he play a mighty fine steel guitar with all the special subtlties but he is a monster on rhythm guitar!

I'd have to place him not less than second in ranking to the late Homer Haynes; actually a first place artist in his own right. When you hear him play accompaniment, you quickly realize why drums are so unnecessary! His fabulous playing will fill-out ANY group.

If ever you've had the pleasure of having him accompany you, you'll surely know of what I speak.

Mr. Ian Ufton.....I salute YOU! You are one great guitarist and play a fine steel also.

I know just what you mean, Ray. His distinctive strums on the beat are the percussion along with great chords he plays, create a great backup.

But has anyone heard him play the bass guitar for backup? Here, he is also a master.

I have had the privilege of having his backup for both rhythm guitar and bass guitar.

He makes everybody sound better.

He is truly a great musical artist.

Aloha,
Don

"If ever you've had the pleasure of having him accompany you, you'll surely know of what I speak."

He definitely has a way to inspire the playing of everyone he works with to a greater level than we ever thought possible.

Ray-Thanks for the post recognizing a great Rhythm guitarist. They hardly get much notice, compared to lead guitarists, so your post was a nice tribute.
As a former heavy Rhythm guitarist along with Steel, I can apreciate what you mean....al
