This is a gcrep eBay auction for a Bronson lap steel (Supro Supreme clone)

Here is the exact same guitar - sold for one tenth of gcrep's opening bid.

I know we've ranted at length about this on more than one thread, but this is just such a striking example of gcrep's absurd pricing.

I was the buyer of the reasonably priced one, and it got here 2 days after the auction. Everything works perfect - it's a sweet little biscuit board. It even has a new set of strings on it. I'm not sure what to call the MOTS color, maybe Charcoal Indigo or Extreme Pewter.
AND gold hardware, even the magnets . .

Im laughing because if there ever was a Dual Pro Fender, this is it haha. Thats what the problem is with e bay, people find these things at an auction or something and rather than find out what the instrument is,they offer it for sale. Unreal. Stringmaster RIGHT
he ought to correct the description.

I took the opportunity to drop the "seller" this little note:

"This is no more a Fender Stringmaster guitar than I am a brain surgeon, and I can assure you I'm not. You know this is almost false advertising if one were to push it. I realize it's not mandatory I bid on the item, but you GCREPS are really making it easy for one to notify ebay of your jacked up prices, for tax purposes I'm sure, and your misrepresentation of the products you offer for bid. 'Nuff said."

"Number of frets: lap steel
Top Wood: none"

Very entertaining.

You all know were talking about Guitar Center, right? As in GC-Rep (Gcrep). There are message all over the internet concerning their inflated starting bids. I've had the same experience looking at used/vintage pieces in their stores--way over priced and not much wiggle room. One of the managers told me the owners don't care if they move the pieces or not--but they like having vintage stuff because it brings folks in. That said, I have scored a couple of good deals, because they were unaware of the value of what they had--these times in the other direction!

Rick, you picked up a nice guitar for a great price. Send the magnets to Rick Aiello to be zapped.

I use a Bronson with a '62 Princeton. After Aiello zapped the magnets, it doubled the pickup output. Makes the Princeton sing.

Yeah, everybody knows who it is. This is yet another chapter of an ongoing discussion on the subject. And you're right - the fellas in the local GC showed me a total beater Gibson Console with knobs & switch tip missing. They had it tagged at 2K.
And they had a BR-9 that looked like it had been underwater for 1K.

No doubt having vintage pieces attracts people to their store - it brought me in.
But once I saw what they had, it was game over.
They are definitely not winning hearts and minds this way.

Alan, I'm probably one of Rick Aiello's busiest remag and NIB replacement mag customers. And you are so right - his remags kick butt, and his NIBs are downright dangerous. Take a look at this page to see some of the guitars I've put them in.

The most remarkable one is the National New Yorker 8 string that I put NIBS in. I had all but given up on that guitar, now with the NIBs it sounds like a sweet dream.

The magnets in this Bronson are actually pretty strong compared to some, but I'll take that good advice and send to Rick them for a bath. When these string through pickups are working at full power there's nothing else like 'em!

Your guitar looks identical to mine, except mine has white knobs.
