Has anyone seen, tried or used this amp head by Evans?
I saw it at the ISGC (not set up) and was amazed at its size...it's about the same size (and weight) as a loaf of bread!
It's tiny!
I think the website says it weighs 5 lbs.

This is their two tube pre-amp version of their current. XX-200 series ampifier. You can buy the amp as a head only, as seen at the show or you can get it as as 10, 12, or 15 inch combo. There is also a solid state pre-amp version for less money.

I have this amp in the 10 inch speaker version and it is great. Buzz Evans from Las Vegas, uses the same in both the 10 inch and 12 inch size. He used the 12 inch in the Jazz room at the convention

The one you saw at ISGC was just the head so you can plug it into any 8 ohm speaker that can handle 200 Watts.

My 10 inch speaker combo weights 24 pounds

Tony and Marvin !! This looks like my kind of amp !! Do I read this correctly ?? That 5 lb. head into a good 8 ohm speaker gives you up to 200 watts power ?? How much $$$ and where are these amp heads available ?? I need a light weight amp with aprox. 100 watts output that weighs around 20 to 25 lbs !! Hope I can hook up with something like this !! Evans Custom Amp's URL is

All the info for the head only and the combo are on this site. You should consider the tube preamp model. They are a little darker and richer sounding than the solid state model. Sounds really good with an Emmons PP as well as a Gibson ES-355.

I might be wrong , but I think the amp puts out the full 200 watts into a 4 ohm load.
The internal spr in my RE 200 is 8 ohms and an extension speaker should, according to the manual, be 8 ohms also. That drops the total impedance to 4 ohms.
I use an 8 ohm JBL loaded ext. cab and the combination is a lot louder than the combo by itself.

I saw the amp at the Star Steel booth. I think it was Mark Giles who showed it to me.
He was pretty impressed with it and had gigged with it.
I could pick it up with my little finger!

I got to look in to this one!

Now, I checked their web, and if it's indeed this hybrid( tube pre-amp) is 5 lbs, and it can pump out 200W for 8 ohm speaker load, then this is exactly what I need.

Olli,

You are probably correct about the 4 ohms. The math works.

Regarding the combo, I thought the same thing and asked about the 8 ohm speaker and was told its 200 watts to the internal speaker. However, they require an 8 ohm extension speaker, which when run with the internal 10 inch, would result in 4 ohms as seen by the amp. There is no provision to run the external alone to allow the use of a 4 ohm speaker. I asked about that was told they do not reccommend a 4 ohms speaker.

The day I visited, there was no amp head available, so I never saw the speaker jack on the unit. I was interested in the 10" combo and they is what they had available.

Having said all that, the amp is really loud into a 15 inch external cabinet the way it is.

The headphone jack is 40 ohms.

Wait, wait, so I shouldn't consider 4 ohm single speaker for this head???

Neutral

Let me see if I'm straight here; a small, yet powerful head with a single speaker cabinet( like Marrs with BW or whatever in it) to pump out 200W is awsome, or is it?

O, I'm so confuuuused.... Confused

Hiro, Marvin is referring to the combo amp. You can`t use a 4 ohmer because there`s no way to disconnect the internal speaker without doing some kind of a mod. I don`t see why the head only version wouldn`t work with a 4 ohm speaker.

Right. You see, that's why ( I thought) most of amp comes with maximum power rating at 4 ohm.

But with Neo speakers, maybe 4 ohm Neo weren't very easily available???
