Taking Tom,s E-13th... 10 string tuning
G# F# E C# B G# F# E D E
WHAT 2 NOTES OR STRINGS WOULD YA-ALL SUGGEST DROPPING TO FIT MY 8 STRING AND STILL GET MOST OF HIS LICKS. LEE

Oh you certainly need that D in there> so I do it this way for 8-string.

G#
F#
E
D
that's my suggestion.
by the way; that's exactly how Tom does it and likes it when he plays my 8-string(when there's only 8.

Right as usual, Ricky- We need the D in there for the important 7th tone and the C# and F# and G#. It would have been nice to have that low E, on my 8 string in the old days.
I missed that low E. Always wished I had 9 strings, now I got it with 10 strings, happy day...al

Brian that would Highly depend on the scale length of your steel.
Do you know what it is?

Ricky, Thanks for the reply. My guitar is a triple eight Stringmaster with 24 1/2" scale.

Ricky, I seem to prefer having the E for the highest string to get one more low note for those huge chords. Is this is the case what do you suggest? Why does Morrell use an E D E on the bottom? What is the advantage of the G# on top? Sorry foa all the questions. Brian

Brian; I can tell you about 20 quick things off the top of my head of the advantages to having a G# on the top> or a E on the top or lower notes on the bottom or not.
I'll tell you exactly what Tom would say if you asked him.
"What comes first; the Egg or the Chicken?".
ha...Tom will always say: "If you can't see it; don't do it and if you can see it, Do IT".
So of course those are my suggestions too.
Go with what you understand and feel comfortable with; and that will change as you start seeing the instrument moreso and/or differently; and that WILL happen.
The way I look at the instrument may certainly not be the way someone else looks at it or understands it.
