I believe that is Ed Ringwald (aka Peewee Charles) one of our Forumites.

Peewee was a longtime member of Gord's band, and there is a large body of recorded work that he did with Gord. He was also a member of the "Great Speckled Bird" (Ian and Sylvia Tyson's band) and left behind some fine recordings there as well. |

There are some sweet tunes (I esp. dig "Never Too Close" and "Protocol") on the "Summertime Dream" album and Peewee's steel work just makes it all the more so _________________ Head full of this kaleidoscope of brain-freight, Heart full of something simple and slow

I really like the way the steel accentuates the mood of that song - I have heard the song performed live after PeeWee left; it is just not the same at all... not to diss Mike Heffernan (keyboard player) but the PSG makes that song, IMHO...
And if you think all he played were chords and pads, check out "The Auctioneer" as recorded on "Dream Street Rose" - some mighty nice pickin' there, Ed!

I was fortunate enough to see Gord live in St Petersburg, FL back in 1984. PeeWee was playing with him at that time. They played Edmond Fitzgerald and it was hauntingly beautiful. PeeWee's playing with Gord was always tasteful and fitting, such that when you hear the songs without the steel they seem naked or something. PeeWee was able to showcase the pedal steel to folks who probably wouldn't have seen or heard it otherwise, and he didn't particularly sound "country" with it either. When I saw them live, seems like he was playing a single neck MSA, which looked way too small for his stature. One of my favorites with PeeWee was Rainy Day People.

Yes, and how interesting that I was just reading a litany of heated posts on the topic of playing scales - Rainy Day People, as I recall, is mostly a scle-based PSG part... |
