I didn't even know that the song was covered by Barabara Fairchild.
The original was by the Dutch band Pussycat, Steel player on the original was Frans Doolaard.
That still doesn't answer your question though..... :oops:

In that audio clip on Amazon, the steel guitar slide sounds like strings 5,6,8 on the E9 neck.
