Arrggh! My old reliable Nashville 400 developed an intermittent on a gig tonight. It only seemed to happen when I was about to take a solo! It would be fine, and then cut in and out with a crackle. I swapped cables and it still happened. I think one of those !@#$%^& internal molex connectors must have developed oxide, or a cold solder joint appeared.

I have a lovely sounding Vegas 400 that developed an intermittent, and my old Session 500 does the same thing. I've put the session 500 on the bench twice and tried to get it to crap out so I could find the bad connection, but it never failed. I put it back together, and it fails within a few minutes.

I guess I'll have to go through the Nash and de-oxit all connections and reheat all solder joints on pots, connectors, power transitors.

Man, this is a drag. Fortunately my Stereo Steel amp is still on the air.

Any guidance on preventing these peavey failures would be appreciated. Yes, I know I can ship the chassis back to meet its maker and they will go over it for $250 (or has it gone up?) but I hate to part with the cash right now. I may have to do that on the sesh 5 tho.

Lynn, it is VERY common for the insert jacks to get dirty on PV amps. Plug a chord into the power/pre amp ins and outs a few times, spray a little cleaner in those jacks too, good luck! JP

I would sent it to Peavey, I sent the chasis of my NV 400 last fall, got it back quickly, and the cost was very reasonable. You may want to check the jacks on the back of the amp, make sure they are clean and soldered well. That's a common problem.

What chord do you suggest? Maybe a big fat Emaj7b5? Laughing

Maybe the insert jacks are the problems with all 3 amps! I never thought of that. I'm tempted to put in a jumper wire that would short the jack contacts that break the connections to the power amp, as I have never used this feature, and that could easily be the problem.

Thanks for the idea.

For testing the Preamp or Effects In/Out jacks, just plug a short guitar cable between the Out and In jacks. If the problem goes away, you know the jacks are at fault.
