I think Richard may be right - it looks like something from the Ormston/Denley era. |

Definitely a Denley John. Same as my first ever pedal steel, except mine was red. Same Roman numerals on the fret board and the black pedals, except mine didn't have the small lower endplates as is your pictured steel. Gordon Huntley kept modifying them, then eventually they had proper full endplates. I sold a few of these from home for Eric Snowball of the "Steel Mill" fame in Maidstone Kent. The decal was a stick on transfer, so it's been removed.

Hi John
How the devil are you ?.
Kens right , it's a Denley/Rotosound/Ormston. yours seems to be quite a late one as it's a 10 stringer and has a roller nut. My first steel was a denley 8 string and an awful thing it was too. Cabinet sag, tuning problems (Manky keys) and it didn't even have a roller nut, it was just a grooved blade. The engineering left a lot to be desired also. Maybe mine was a really early one.
The saving grace was the pick up, it was excellent. I think they were hand wound.
Best regards
Barry |

My Denley could be a later model, as it has a aluminium neck, nut rollers, and no tuning problems.

I had a grooved blade on my Ormston (circa 1969) as per Barry's post. Average string break was about 4 or 5 a night. Good pickup though. |

What does/did P4 do ? I could not see any rods connected underneath. |

This topic brought back some memories,my first steel
was a single eight string, four pedal (no knee levers) guitar. I traded a '54 Gibson Les Paul
Black beauty for it in 1970,I think someone had a
bargain there and it was'nt me ! however it put me
on the right track starting out on the pedal steel,
can't say I'm sorry.
